Trying to get my Volvo back on the road...

Awhile ago, my Volvo died on me while I was driving home. I suspected the alternator, went to have it tested, and sure enough, the alternator was dead. I replaced the alternator and the battery (it was time); the car will run with no problem, but I can't get the dash warning lights to go off. Did I do something wrong with the wiring? What else might cause this?

If it is your 90 - it has a very basic code reader that involves a series of lights and pins in a module under the hood - drivers side. Research resetting technique. It involves placing the pin in a specific order and everything should clear if the problem is fixed.

^ I really didn't understand this message. Are you saying that what my car is doing is normal, and there is a way to reset all the dash lights?

Yes, to reset codes (dash lights on your model), you have to open the hood, find the module and manually put the little pin in the proper holes to force a reset. This is how you clear the check engine light and any other malfunction lights. The module is also how you read the fault codes by counting a series of flashing lights. The car has a very basic built in diagnostic center.

This page will explain the code module - hope it clears the right lights.

If your battery/charging light is still on then I am not sure if this will help but you should learn about the code module anyway.

Thanks for the info. Almost all the dash lights are on. The battery is not draining - the car starts fine every time, and does not run down if you drive the car.

I will check it out sometime within the next couple days (busy lately) and get back to you.
