NC beach trip?

My wife loves the beach....I do not.

I talked her out of going to Carolina Beach. Now she wants to go to Emerald Isle.

Does anyone have suggestions for fun.

Did I mention that I do not like the beach.

Hit the new aquarium. It ain't Boston, but it is still pretty amazing. I was pretty impressed and feeling like I had gotten my money's worth, until I got to the 'main event'. It is a gigantic tank built around an old WWII German sub hull section. Everything from jackfish to sharks in that one. Huge. Your kid will flip over the otter tank.

Pine Knoll Shores aquarium is really nice since they did the renovation.

There's a beach at Emerald Isle?

I don't know....I guess there is a beach. I am looking for something other than sitting on the beach.

Want me to ask about pool halls on a billiards website? That's where I'd rather be whenever Cindy & I go to the Oregon coast...;)

Yes, 2 yo son. He has hearing aids...so being near the water and the sand is a risk.

I will should be out there on the 25th. We have four West coasters comming in on the 23rd. Got to be some bars around, Pine Knoll Shores aquarium is a must do.

The trip has been canceled. I just could not make myself go (10 people in a 3 bedroom condo).
Am I unreasonable for not wanting to go?

My wife is pissed, but I think we can come up with something else. She says Gettysburg PA to visit an uncle is the plan now.

Not to me.

We used to vacation every summer for a week at the beach with a really great family...he is a friend of mine from high school.

We'd alternate beaches, Long Beach Island, NJ one year and then find another spot the next. We both grew up surfing and I have been surf kayaking since the '70's. We both also golf so we'd tee it up at least two days during the week.

Great fun...for the first three days. Two families in one house gets, to me, onerous under the best of circumstances. You can drink other peoples kids polite but you can't drink them quiet.

We now stagger the week and overlap the magical three days in the middle of the week. Works for us.

I just got done making the drive from Emeral Isle to northern VA a couple of hours ago. We have been going every year since 1987. I have missed a trip here and there, but not very often. My family rents a beachfront house, and we spent every waking minute on the beach. There isn't much better than drinking a beer looking at the ocean, then getting up, riding some waves, repeat.

I have a 6 yo and 3 yo, they absolutely love it.

The aquarium is cool.

I hear you about your son, that would def put a damper on it.

Thanks,

Nope. I detest the beach, the only thing I enjoy doing there is watching the sun come up, with a cup of coffee. Then I am ready to head back home. When my family wants to go to the beach, I simply them to have a great time, see ya when ya get back. Works for us.

Dtw and I are fans of sharky's fish shack for a laid back meal. Can't say much other than that since when he and I go we just chill and don't do much

911boost 07-20-2009 10:19 AM

89911, do you have kids? What kind of food are you looking for?

"Shark Shack", yep, is great. Live music outdoors on Saturday nights. Get the grouper bites or the fish taco.

For more upscale, there's the Beaufort Grocery, Shepherd's Point, and Catherine's.
