Question on MIG welding stainless

Well I have a Dansk SS muffler for the Carrera, but it is for a longhood, which means the outlets would hit the bumper on my shorthood. The answer is to cut the outlets off and rotate them down about 10 degrees. I have done this on a steel muffler, but never on stainless. I have a good gas MIG welder with infinite amp and speed settings. Can I just get a roll of stainless wire and weld? Anything special I need to know?

Yes, you can get stainless wire. I've only done a couple of small stainless welds, and I used the same CO2 mix I do for normal steel; this isn't proper, but it worked. I've also welded stainless using normal steel wire; it didn't look pretty, but it worked.

Aren't you supposed to use straight Argon for stainless?

Considering this isn't a mission-critical application, you're probably going to be fine. I'd see your biggest challenge as dialing in your settings, as you aren't going to find another piece of stainless with the same composition/thickness to practice on. (And not all stainless is created equal.)

I really wanted to get a Tig welder, but they are just too pricey for occasional use.

I welded my exhaust with my MIG using stainless wire and straight argon. It's not as pretty as TIG but it's perfectly fine.
