What's a good gaming steering wheel that's not too expensive

Hey,

I got a great race game and am looking for a steering wheel (and pedals). I see recommendations for a Logitech G25, but I don't want to spend $300 on a gaming wheel.

Any good ones that are reasonably priced?

It's going to connect to a laptop.

Thanks in advance,

I was going to recommend the G25....

The XBOX 360 wheel is nice and you can get a little adapter to use it on a PC

I understand the Logitech Driving Force Pro Playstation wheel has PC drivers available. A search on Google shopping finds a bunch of places selling it for under $100.

I have one of the old red Momo Logitech wheels, and it is pretty good, not sure about the current generation, but they probably use the same internals.

I have that one. Although it is marketed as a PS2 or PS3 wheel, it works with PCs if you use the Logitech software (dowloadable from their site).

I find it excellent for its price, providing 900º of turn and a good feedback.

I picked up a G25 on Craigslist for $150. It took a bit of waiting and looking. It's very nice, but I found that there are so many parts, it's a bit of a pain to set up etc.
So also budget for a good stand for what ever option you choose.
I ended up getting a wheelstandpro for it also http://www.wheelstandpro.us/servlet/StoreFront and that makes it very stable and is easy to fold and store when not in use.

Haven't tried this one and they are much more than a G25, but i really like the look of the GT3 set from fanatec. http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_usa/index.php

Use this wheel.

With this adapter

I haven't used the adapter to run on PC but the XBOX wheel is IMHO the best bang for the buck wise. Nice ergonomics. I play for hours on end. The forcefeedback is awesome too.

I've had a logitec driving force pro for a long time now and have bashed the crap out of it on GT4. very good feedback, pedals feel nice plus its prob cheaper than the 25... depends on how bothered you are about it I spose. I'm sure if I was in your position I'd end up justifying having to buy the BEST one on the market!

if you interested there is an old thread I started for fastest lap on the nurburgring

Thanks guys,

I see some of you are very serious ;D

I never knew there was stands like that...and here I was wanting to get an old F1 front end and mount everything inside; the stand might be cheaper

Are most wheels, pedals, etc. wireless now? And do you have to mount the wheel on something so you are not throwing it around?

I'll keep looking to see what's out there.

Cheers

Unfortunately I think most are not wireless. I know the G25 has the USB connector and a power cord.
All wheels and shifters need to be mounted to something, especially force feedback models. Pedals can set on the floor. Before the wheel pro stand, I used a semi sturdy wood $10 TV Tray table from target.

I have wheels by MadCatz. They work well and I think I picked them up for under $40.00, but that was a while ago.

The madcatz wheels are decent but they are not Forcefeedback. A wheel just sucks if it isnt force feed back.

Are you sure that is a G25?

G25s have 3 pedals and a separate shifter assembly. That looks like my Driving Force Pro.

Nice setup anyway!!!!

Yep...you are right, it is the Logitech Driving Force Pro. It's been a couple years since I bought it. Been stuck on a few of the harder tracks on Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge...easy to spend too much time in it.
