I know a lot of local PCA guys have put GM compressors on their 911s.
Compressor size makes a difference too. My wife has a little compressor on her Sunfire. It takes half a mile of driving before it starts to blow cool. My truck has a large compressor, it is freezing me out before I'm out of the driveway. |

Love the car...a quick GT that you can climb out of after 500 miles and still feel like playing pool for a few hours... |

One of the factors of good AC is also going to be the size of the interior. Take two trucks, one with a regular cab (1 bench seat) and another that is the SUV or crew cab version of the same truck so 2x, 3x, or 4x the interior volume. It's going to take a lot longer to cool the giant SUV down than the regular old pick-up.
When I had my '88 and the AC was in good shape, it would freeze me out of the car here in Houston. The secret was having it charged up and in shape and keeping the passenger's side vent closed. |
My 07 Vette i s awesome... big v8, good size compressor, small cabin.......excellent combo....downright frosty...

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately and the majority of the compressors I see that have taken the big dirt nap are the ones with orifice tubes. The expansion valve cars blow seals mainly due to age. I'll have to post a picture of the 944 blowing near freezing and the land cruiser a little below that. Both are converted to 134.

The best Air Conditioning I ever had was in a rented 1988 Cadillac Sedan De Ville.
The Germans do NOT have any freaking idea how to make an air conditioning system. They issue severe heat advisories in that country when the temp goes over 85F. If you go there in the summer time, go down in the U-bahn, the cars are nearly silent when they are stopped. . . none of the telltale whirr of fans. . . because there is no AIR CONDITIONING in the cars! For Superman's cold breath blowing out of the vents, gimme the U S A! U S A! U S A! (repeat) |
...Guess I need to look around for a 20 year old Coupe De Burgerville.
Got my Range Rover's AC charged today, and it blows like ice ...on your knees only. |
Actually, Porsche air conditioning works quite well in the air cooled cars...when ambient air temps are around 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
