Question on refinishing german alloy wheels
I am refinishing all 5 of the original wheels on my Audi. I have all the necessary supplies, wet/dry sandpaper from 100 - 600grit, Wurth self etching primer, base coat and clear coat, etc...
I have 3 wheels that are pretty rough. I have taken those three down to mostly metal. The other two are in good shape, but the clear coat is a little dull. My question is, can I just rough up the clear layer and respray a few coats of clear on top of the existing paint? Or should I take those down to primer and do all three steps as well? It's a hell of a lot of work sanding and prepping the wheels for paint, so if I can avoid some extra sanding and painting I'd rather not take the two good ones down to primer/metal. Any advice? |
take it to metal. I tried this a few years ago, and it peeled in a few weeks.
