I vote for the Jag.

(these are old pics, I think I even posted them in the thread before)

While it's possible without, you really need a flash and a fast lens to get good pix of the hummers. Another problem with your two images, is back lighting. It's not helping your cause. Well, in a way it is, but overall it's better not to have all that light in the background of your images.

Flieger 03-20-2012 09:34 PM

I only have the on-camera flash and that always seems to throw weird shadows and highlights- not the fill lighting I need.

I did not have much of a choice in the back lighting. I tried to get the least amount of background lighting I could but those were the conditions when they were most active at the feeder.

Yeah, the jag makes the most sense with it being the polished version. Hmmm, wonder if there are any other PP badges on Jags???

Flieger 03-20-2012 09:40 PM

I tried to get the bright red throat and irridescent green back but they poke their heads up only very briefly. Too quick for my shutter. The other thing is that if the sun is shining on the flower, then their back is towards the camera. If I shoot the opposite direction then I am shooting into the sun.

That's why you block off (tape) most of the feeding holes, except the one that will get you the good shot. :)

Flieger 03-20-2012 09:50 PM

I'm not that cruel to teeze the hummers like that. :D

slodave 03-20-2012 09:53 PM

They don't mind. :)

Flieger 03-20-2012 09:55 PM

I do like watching the squirrels being baffled by the squirrel baffle, though. :)

slodave 03-20-2012 09:55 PM

TGUS is actually amusing tonight.

Flieger 03-20-2012 09:56 PM

What are they doing?

slodave 03-20-2012 09:59 PM

Custom limos, but the challenges are pretty funny.

Flieger 03-20-2012 10:01 PM

Well, I did not like the TGUK limos final challenge with the singers that much. I thought the first couple challenges were great. And the cars themselves were so hilariously ridiculous.

slodave 03-20-2012 10:03 PM

I don't laugh at the TGUS episodes, but I can't stop laughing at this one.

I'm signing off for tonight. This has been an interesting day. Started with a good ride on Mulholland, then got better with the grades, then by typing that reply to Dave I ended up doing some deep thinking and learning more about myself. But it finished off with light chat about hummingbirds. :)

I was joking about the Russian bride. Don't so it.

HHI944 03-20-2012 10:09 PM

Don't go near Russians......they're the craziest of the crazy......BTDT.....now carry a handcuff key in my wallet....

slodave 03-20-2012 10:27 PM

I worked for them. :)

I was going for an IT cert and my instructor was drooling over some bride he met over the Internet. One class, he told us how he had wired about 5 grand to her and was expecting her the next week. Next week comes and goes and he does not show to class. We finally found out his bride never got on the plane and was never planning on it. Man he was crushed.

For the record, I did not work for the Russians, but a Russian guy here.

HHI944 03-20-2012 10:30 PM

fist.......meet nuts....

Oh, I knew that, it was just that as I was explaining how I was not just looking for a good time in a brief fling that I realized why I was searching for what I am seeking.
