Not sure what to think boys....

Found out today that a guy I ran around with when I was younger, like 5th-9th grade, passed away last night.... Everyone suspects alcohol poisoning and I am hearing he had been drinking since his birthday on Monday.... We weren't close anymore. In fact I hadn't seen him in months. Still kinda bothers me though. First of my class mates to die.

On the flip side. Him and his brother both have had to have their stomachs pumped. Serious party boys. Never known any different. The only things their dad has ever done for money was bookie/pool shark. I mean it didn't surprise me to hear that he had drank himself to death.

Sid, that is a good lesson. There are many idiots that think that all there is in life is to get as messed up as possible as often as possible. I knew a few of them in my youth. I was never one of them.

I suspect Rick can explain it way better than I can. I still enjoy a few frosty wheat pops, but that is all.

I watched my dad go through some tough times with alcohol. He has been sober for over 25 years.

I haven't touched any hooch since new years.... I suspect it'll be a while more... Just pointless really...

Been there done that.

Still do that, on a much less regular basis.

Agreed that it's not worth dying for.

Hey Rick it is good to see ya back (a little). I hope you and Stijin are each working through your problems, in very separate ways. :)

We all miss ya both.

I have a plethora of rude comments and innuendos building up inside and I need someone like you guys around so I can get them out. It is no fun being a jerk with no one to insult.

Good luck to both of you.

hey rick, just noticed you've been posting. good to hear from you.

I haven't touched any hooch since Sunday when I got to fly for 2 hours next to a massive lady wearing a Barack Obama T shirt. Flight attendant came by and I ordered 4 bottles of scotch. Even slightly buzzed, the urge to kill was almost uncontrollable.

Schumi 04-15-2010 09:30 PM

I haven't touched any hooch in about 30 seconds.

Ooop. Here it comes again.

Morning Rico, nice to see you're still in the neighbourhood.

I tought Stijn had dibs on the blonde.... ;)

AND GOODMORNING TO EVERYBODY!!!
It is Friday again.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Porschedays in Spa, Francorchamps!!!
My mechanic friend invited me to his stand in the F1 pitboxes.
A day of looking at, smelling, hearing, breathing and touching Porsches!!!! And I suspect there will be a good deal of fine honeys as well....
The guy that invited me also races in Belcar races (formerly the Dunlop Endurance Cup) with a 2008 997 Supercup, and he is fast.
I'm hoping the car will be there as well this weekend (very likely) and maybe get to ride shotgun for a few laps!

Pic to follow

Sid, working on cars can either be fixing or fix/upgrading.

I replaced the steering column cover that was broken up pretty bad on the Rover. Took me about an hour to take it apart, required removing the lower dash on the driver's side. Took me 4 days to get it back together. Partly because I am a little OCD on cleaning parts before putting them back on, and partly because "Why thy heck did they do it that way?" A previous mechanic stripped out some screw anchors (epoxy drying time) , didn't put the wiring back the way it was supposed to go (2 relay blocks and the bulb check ecu were just stuffed up under the dash instead of mounted where they were supposed to be, and he left an a/c duct bit off completely (no wonder the air didn't blow too good from that duct).

porsche4life 04-15-2010 10:35 PM

No smoke out of the dash yet? Impressive....

RKDinOKC 04-15-2010 10:44 PM

Careful with that hooch stuff.

Friend of mine's fiancé never drank, then ODed on a few mixed drinks of Vodka at his Bachelor party. Major bummer for both families and friends alike.

Dropped in on another friend and found him very depressed sitting on his couch with an empty 5th, a shot glass, a pistol, and one bullet on the coffee table. Stayed with him till he sobered up the next day and took him to an AA meeting. He checked into a rehab center and claims I saved his life. His wife of 10 years had just left him because he found out he had a kid he didn't know about from a previous wife he divorced 2 years before he and the current wife had even met. She knew about the previous wife, the 11 year old kid was the surprise.

RKDinOKC 04-15-2010 11:00 PM

I don't usually fry electric stuff. I usually break stuff getting to the thing I want to fix. Seems the previous mechanic had taken care of breaking all the stuff under the dash for me on the Rover when he replaced the ignition switch.

'a few mixed drinks'... I call some shens.

Not that I'm proud of this but there were several college occasions where I've drained more than a fifth of hard alcohol in a time span of about 2 hours. And I'm not a big guy.

livi 04-15-2010 11:45 PM

Morning, guys.
