Morning all.

Gumertninal

If I put together a non-profit organization that raised money to advertise on television to NOT click on or buy from spam email ads, and list companies to boycott because they advertise using spam. Run ads like the tobacco truth commercials that talk about how much money and time is wasted blocking and marking or trashing spam emails, etc. Would you contribute?

Just wondering.

How many emails do you get that are mailing lists you subscribed to that have the word unsubscribe or even better a link to unsubscribe in them?

GH85Carrera 10-31-2015 09:19 AM

I sure would contribute. I hate fricking spam. I want to add the telemarketers that call me even when I am on the no call list. Nuke em till they glow!

I have two spam filters running on my email server. One bounces a LOT of spam and the others it marks as SPAM in the subject and delivers. I have a rule on the server that puts marked messages in the users Junk E-mail folder. The other is spam assassin and learns what is spam by what you move in and out of the Junk E-mail folder.

My account that that I've had since 1991 receives 20,000 messages a day. 2 to 4 spam messages come to my inbox, and from 3 to 20 in my Junk E-mail folder with about half what makes it to my junk email folder marked by the hosted service.

The hosted service is called Mail Foundry. I got in early and only pay $0.99 per month per user. In July Mail Foundry was purchased by Barracuda. That's when the spam increased AND I started getting false positives. Before the ownership change I had gotten ZERO false positives in 7 years, ZERO! I noticed on their main page that they are now charging between $5 and $6 per user per month, Ouch.

Looks like I am going to be searching for another anti spam service!

I host the company Glen works for's email. Looked at their mail foundry statistics this morning. Of around 10,000 messages their company of 8 users received this month 10 total emails were classified as not spam. 99% of their email traffic is spam!

Well, gotta start cleaning house and cleaning out the refrigerator to be gone for two weeks.

First time in a very long time I've left the house empty for that long. Wish I had installed photocells on my porch and outdoor garage lights.

We're skipping the ritual of feeding little humans products loaded with high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and artificial flavors; instead, we're going to see The Martian in 3D IMAX. :)

Last year only 7 kids came by so this year there are only 4 or 5 houses with their lights on. When I was a kid only 1 or two houses on a whole block didn't give out sumpthin. Seem to remember a lot of that orange and black wrapped taffy. And we had real home made treats too. It wasn't until I was a teen that the freakin lunatic morons started puting pins and razor blades in Halloween goodies.

0 kids
Guess i'll have to eat it all.

Went to Lowes instead of greeting kids in costume, got some dusk to dawn outdoor sconce lights for my garage and front door. Waiting till it's light out to install them. Also going to tweak up my alarm system. Turned of the monitoring after Mom passed, but they don't know that and the siren still goes off. Will give my neighbor instructions to turn it off. Also need to have them collect my mail. Would be nice to have some home automation to open and close blinds and turn on an off inside lights. Since almost all of the houses in the neighborhood look dark except for the porch and garage lights I should be good. Only thing I really have to worry about is the neighborhood kids.

Today is the 20th Anniversary of buying and moving into this house. Submitted our contract on Friday the 13th to close on Halloween.

Oh Haha 10-31-2015 07:55 PM

I took my daughter and a friend out to TorT. What a crappy night. It was raining and about 45 degrees. Many houses were not participating for whatever reason but they still got more crap than they need.

We are going to my hometown tomorrow to visit with my mom and all of the siblings. It was 40 years ago tonight that my brother was killed in a car accident. My mom gets emotional at this time of the year but this year seems different. She called me yesterday and asked if we could come over. I guess she just wants all of her kids around at one time.

I'm going to watch it tomorrow evening, but not in 3D. :(

They are only screening it in 3D this week tonight and on Wednesday evening. Tonight the kids come over for dinner, and Wednesday I'll be busy at my cardio gym class.

I liked The Martian, especially Marvin, his dog Commander K-9 and the way they used the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.

Went out tonight with 7 kids (one of whom I carried around for about 8 blocks) and assorted parents, and everyone had a great time. :)

Noah930 10-31-2015 11:36 PM

Don't forget it's daylight savings tonight. Great idea to have a friggin clock in every room (plus watches plus cars).

Hmmm, my calendar says Nov 1st 2am becomes 1am.

Wonder if my iPhone will automatically change and I will get an extra hour of sleep if I set my alarm on it?
