Hola y’all. We’re moving out of June Gloom and into “summer.” Low 70s for the high. We’re just keeping windows open during the day to keep the house comfortable. I think we don’t really get hot here until September.

More fun in the garage today. And my new tires should arrive.

GH85Carrera 07-02-2019 06:28 AM

I ordered new tires for my 911 yesterday. Dang, tires are getting expensive. Of course 17 inch 255s and 225s are a lot more rubber than the old 15s in 205 and 225 sizes. Geezer voice: I can remember my first set of tires for the 911 were under $500 mounted and balanced and taxes out the door. Now the rears alone are more than that just for two tires. If I was not going on a 5,000 mile drive I would stick with the current tires, but they are down to the wear bars in the rear and the front. The rears have a little more rubber left than the fronts so I guess I don't oversteer as much as I could at the autocross.

Morning all. I gave up at noon and went home to sleep. hoping to make it thru the day today.

Just don't infect all the co-workers. They will go home and leave you to do all the work.

I have warned them to stay away.

Bought new tires for my Porsches every fall since discovering autocross. End of Autocross season it was time for new tires. The extra tread provided better traction in winter weather and by spring they had enought new worn off they were ready for autocross. Did enjoy the 4 wheel drift. Typically cross rotated the front tires to use the edges (if they weren't directional). The rears were just down to wear bars.

Haven't bought new tires for the GTS since stopped autocrossing 7 years ago
Have bought Cayenne tires every 4 years.

The se on my 911 now are from before the trip to Vermont and all the New England states, and Canada. They have almost 10,000 miles on them now. And a lot of autocrosses. No doubt, something about sliding around corners and braking hard will wear out tires faster.

I have several sets of brake pads that only got 1/2 used up before I was going to go do some track days and I wanted new pads for that.

Jim, we are in full midwest weather now.

We had a storm Sunday night. it was only 20 minutes but we received .75" of rain and 83mph winds in that 20 minutes. That day went from 92* around noon to 80* but 1:00 and back up to 95* by 5:00 and then 5:25 the storm rolled in and it was in the 70s. The storm arrived before the weather alerts.

Porsche-poor 07-02-2019 08:19 AM

never dull moment back there.

flipper35 07-02-2019 08:26 AM

At least there were no trailers coming through the garage or anything this time. We lost a couple limbs but communities nearby are still cleaning up.

One of the things they talked about at the National Weather Center tour was the goal to get weather warnings like we have for the rest of the country. Much of our coverage is by the local TV stations, and one station has a more advanced system than the National Weather Service has because the federal budget does not care much about weather unless there is a big storm and people die. Then it gets attention for a short while, and the politicians forget.

With three TV stations fighting for ratings we have real meteorologist as the TV weather staff. Even most of the storm chasers are actual degreed meteorologists.

We often see coverage where they are shown and tracking a storm block by block. They give us exact times a storm will arrive in an area.

When our daughter got home 5 minutes before the storm hit, she was going to ask to go out since it didn't look like the weather was going to do anything. We have OTA TV and it was raining hard enough the stations wouldn't come in. The station my mother in law had her weather radio tuned to was just static. I wondered if it got hit early on.

The only thing that worried me was the green sky as it hit.

Wow, that’s some wild stuff!

I have several weather apps, and most have a radar feed of my location, or anywhere I want to see.

I get alerts from the apps when a storm is approaching. From watches, to full out warnings. It is great to have while away from home and in other areas I don’t know what county or area of a city I am at. It will tell me if weather is coming towards me.

I remember many times it was hot as heck, the front came through and the temps dropped into the 60s. Once it was nice and pleasant at night. A thunderstorm collapsed right over my area, the winds were high and suddenly it was 100 degrees late at night. Weather is fascinating.

I slept in so I can go to work at 10 and stay until 9.... I like your hours better.

Porsche-poor 07-02-2019 09:34 AM

I would prefer to not be sick and still be sleeping.

We both have those too, and most of the time they work well.

Lookin like we won't be having the big fourth family cook-out and fireworks display over the big pond out at the farm this year.

Bro and his kids are in Colorado for the fourth. Maybe it's because recreational pot is legal in CO now.

Yesterday when I went to get the mail I had a package and it had a piece of paper taped to it with "Wrong Address" written on it. The package was addressed to the house on a different street, so I was the second try and it was still delivered to the wrong address! It looked like medications, so someone may have been in need of the pills. The house was in my neighborhood, and not too far away, and I figured I could call the guy I know well that runs our neighborhood association. He gave me the phone number of the guy. This morning we met 1/2 way and I gave him the package.

As I was outside this morning putting water in the fountain and a lady was standing on the sidewalk in front of our house. She spoke up and said she is not a stalker or anything just admiring the flowers and the cute rabbits. We are wanting the rabbits gone because they are eating the flowers. She was just out walking in the pretty morning temps. So I actually talked to two of my neighborhood residents in one day! ;)
