The remains of the pear tree. The guy that climbed up into the tree and cut the top parts and then cut the tree down put his initials in the stump as a final step. They will come back and finish up some of the trees in the neighborhood and then grind out the stump as much as possible. We will be planting something there. NOT a Bradford Pear fer sure fer sure.

Morning all. Got a flu shot and shot one for singles. The past two days have been a real blast cause once again I get to have all the side effects. Including a 101.5 fever.

GH85Carrera 11-05-2020 07:18 AM

We got the 1st part of the two part shingles shot a while back. Just a sore arm for a few days at the injection spot. Since we are geezers we got the "Strong dose" flu shot for seniors and that had just the slightest soreness. Mostly I forgot about it unless my wife mentioned her shot.

I went into the back yard this morning, and wow, it sure looks different. The Fire Dragon Maple in our yard is a stump, and the neighbors big tree is gone. The boss's wife is insisting I mow the yard over by where the tree was to pick up the leaves. So I got dressed in my yard clothes today.

It is another San Diego weather day today. 63 right now with a high of 72 or so.

The fever is from the 'singles' shot, not the flu.
Not uncommon.

Welp, the yard is "mowed" or more accurately, the leaves are picked up. The fescue shade grass had grown some, and it got trimmed. My plan is to wait until after Thanksgiving and do a final mowing, and winterize the yard equipment to be ready for 2021.

flipper35 11-05-2020 10:01 AM

If I wait until after thanksgiving I will have to use the snow blower on the yard before i mow.

GH85Carrera 11-05-2020 10:45 AM

Back in the old days when I had a regular job I always liked to wait until the day after Thanksgiving to mow the yard. We always took that Friday off, and it was after a couple of hard freezes so the grass was dormant and no more growth.

February is usually our bad winter month. The ice storm in October is really unusual. It is 76 and sunny right now.

seems to be the rule of thumb for me.

I spend two days on the bathroom floor curled up in the fetal position with the flu shot.

No doubt every human is different, just like everyone else.

My shingles shot just made my arm feel warm and sore at the injection site. No other symptoms. We go back for part two next month.

Porsche-poor 11-05-2020 12:38 PM

I got back for part two in Jan and I'm taking the next day off to sleep.

My mom had shingles. She said it was 10 times worse than childbirth. It lasted almost as long, but the agony was lots worse and lasted much longer. I will just accept her word for that.

I had the single shot shingles shot several years ago. Now they decided the two shot version is the way to go. If they come up with a three shot version in a couple of years I will take that as well.

I got the tax bill from the state of Oklahoma for our airplane. There is a line at the bottom where I am supposed to write in the amount sent. Is is less than 50 bucks so no big deal. They have the chart for jets, and if we had a 747-300 the line is VERY long to write in 7 figures. Dang I am glad we don't own a 747!

Well, my brother in Oklahoma City still has NO POWER!
This is the 11th day.
Moved to a hotel.

Except he did hove power or 3 hours on day 3.

GH85Carrera 11-06-2020 07:14 AM

The power company is saying by the end of the weekend all power will be restored. Your brother must live in an area with massive damage from falling trees.

The folks that cut down our two trees said they worked on several houses that had a tree or large limbs INSIDE the house. The power company will not restore power to a house that does not have a new occupancy permit, and a solid pedestal to tie the meter to. I have heard the older historical neighborhoods got hit hard with all the old large trees destroying a lot of the poles.

We know we were lucky to have 20 seconds of power loss in the middle of the ice storm.

Trying to decide if I need to keep the generator i purchased. Haven't needed one for 20 years!

Took me 2 hour to hook it up and the power immediately came back on when I plugged in the TV.

Helper does not have power back on yet.

I have a couple a windows big limbs broke.

GH85Carrera 11-06-2020 07:33 AM

I am sure the market for slightly used generators is flooded right now. Drain the gas, and keep it for a few months. I bet the prices for used generators is pretty weak. Just a wild ass guess.

If it is a Honda inverter unit I might be interested. If not, I don't want it.

Briggs and Straton 6500 watts with a silent mode. Evn has USB for a phione,

The difficult part was running extention cords to run the fridge, gas heater, and TV/network.

RKDinOKC 11-06-2020 11:45 AM

ATT had 3 spots they were injecting Power Over Ethernet and dont have anything that runs on POE.

GH85Carrera 11-06-2020 11:50 AM

Yep, lots of extension cords needed for that setup. My neighbor did the expensive but right way with a whole house generator. 8 grand is too much for me with the electricity as reliable as it is.

I just stopped for gas at my usual spot. As I was pumping I heard a concrete truck making a lot of noise so I looked up and it was his brakes. I noticed a black pickup going west suddenly turn south and pull in next to me at the gas pump. He said nice El Camino, so we chatted about it and how his son just found a 84 model. About the time the tank was full, he pulled out and continued on west. I guess he stopped just to chat about my car. He has excellent taste. ;)
