Our boy was watching with great interest as they rebuilt the transmission. The mechanic then turned to him and asked if he was doing the next one to which he replied, "maybe".

Kinda brisk here today. 16 degrees. At least the roads seem to be clear. We may have to make a banana run and some other food items.

My dad always hated February the most, we seem to get the real winter weather in Feb. I am ready for spring!

flipper35 02-09-2021 11:18 AM

We will be above 0 most of this week and to 14* by next Tuesday. -22* was colder than I like. Brrrrrrr.

At least the sun is out today and the weather app says real feel is 14 even though it is 4.

The help desk guy had the vaccine last night and is having a severe reaction to it. This was the second shot, the first didn't bother him at all.

Everyone else healthy?

Pete, sorry we are sending this crap your way!

Only 19 today so a warming trend compared to yesterday. We may well go for 10 days below freezing. I bet that is close to a record for us and I guess I will find out when it finally warms up what the record is.

I really want to do a oil change and valve adjustment on the 911. Normally I go warm up the oil by driving a few miles first. I may put it off a little longer just to save electricity for the garage heater. It works great and I can putter around out there in a t-shirt and jeans comfortably but I think I will wait until it is above freezing at least. The garage gets to 50 degrees and maybe hig 40s in this weather.

The TV weatherman loves to show the possible extremes, and is loving the -35 wind chill and that freaks out my wife. I have explained that the house and the plants are not affected one bit by wind chill. She still insisted we cover the outdoor faucets with towels. So I let her have fun doing that.

Morning all. Lots of work yesterday.

We are still looking at the chance of snow later tonight and into tomorrow. Its 29* out right now. I think I will stay inside all day.

GH85Carrera 02-10-2021 07:11 AM

I made a brief run to the local grocery store and it was packed like the apocalypse was imminent. It was busier than I have ever seen it before.

The local TV meteorologists love to predict the worst case scenario and predicted possible inches of snow and ice for the drive in today. The roads are dry and nothing is falling so far.

My 14 step commute down the hall was not affected. It this weather it is nice to live in the era of modern technology. Our house stays at the same temperature with no effort at all. I often wonder how in the heck the stone age natives with nothing but stones and flint to chop wood and make shelters survived. They had to be be tough. Heck my own dad said he remembers waking up in the mornings with frost on his bed, and the water pitcher frozen solid. They had to light a fire in the stove to thaw the water just to drink. I can't imagine having to run to the outhouse when it is this cold. Indoor plumbing rocks!

Porsche-poor 02-10-2021 07:18 AM

I asked the boss if it snows can I stay home from work? He said he expects me to be on time and that the walk down the hall should not take any longer than yesterday.

flipper35 02-10-2021 08:41 AM

Some bosses are so unreasonable!

Porsche-poor 02-10-2021 08:49 AM

they certainly are. I was given a task to do that our overseas branch said would take them 32 hours to complete. I got it done in less than 8. You would think I might get the day off.........

flipper35 02-10-2021 08:52 AM

At least you should get paid the 32 hours book time!

Porsche-poor 02-10-2021 09:11 AM

you would think but that probably goes in to the project mgr bonus.

flipper35 02-10-2021 09:41 AM

Usually how it goes.

Porsche-poor 02-10-2021 09:55 AM

yep. none here for the last 5 years.

flipper35 02-10-2021 09:57 AM

Maybe next time just get it done in 30 hours. Still faster that the other guys, right?

GH85Carrera 02-10-2021 10:05 AM

Whew, I am registered for PCA Porsche Parade. It is just unacceptable that they have a site that crashes and can't handle the multiple log in attempts. If the Stat of Oklahoma with hundreds of thousands of people hitting the portal for Covid shots can cope with no issue PCA should have a site that can handle 500 to 700 people max at initial sign up.

Ah well, it is better than the old days when the site would bog down so much it took an hour to get three pages to load.

Of course in the olden days of 1996 when I was in charge of registration it was all analog. Everyone had to mail in the paper form to PCA national and then they deposited the money and sent me the analog pages to enter on my 386 or maybe 486 and I had to enter them into a custom database. I then ran reports and put them on my BBS and the national officers logged in and downloaded the reports at 28.8 baud.

Yep, just get it done in less time and still have time to goof off! :D

Porsche-poor 02-10-2021 10:33 AM

The only problem there is that I was not old how many hours. They didn't tell me till I was done.

flipper35 02-10-2021 11:05 AM

Stinkers!

GH85Carrera 02-10-2021 11:28 AM

One of the bigger projects we did for a client they said it had to be finished and delivered to them within 4 weeks and that was a breech of contract if we failed to deliver on time. We had it done in 2.5 weeks and we know the employee well enough to ask him if we can deliver it early or are we required to wait until that deliver date. He of course said send it on! He did his part and had it all stamped, done and finished and sat on it for a couple of days and delivered to the big bosses one day early. He said if he delivered it when he was done they would expect it much faster next time. He looked like a hero and then the company sat on our payment for 8 weeks.

No problem Brent. Haven't had much cold weather this year.
8 below is the coldest so far. No big snow storms either just a lot of little storms that have been piling up as we haven't had a thaw to settle them.

Been keeping the Rona at bay so far.
