Jim, I really hope you get that Mini.
I retract my Miata statement earlier as I have never driven one.

Be that dodge Colt, Chevy Chevette, that hideous little cult favorite French renault thingy, the VW bug(spit), the Gremlin, the Pacer, the "Smart", all of them.

As for the rest of your comments, "Lighten up Francis."

This is a car forum. On car forums people take shots at cars they don't like. Be it replicars(replicrap anyone?), Vettes, Harleys........whatever.

You have your opinion, i have mine, and if you don't like mine, well.....go Fk yourself.
The last time I checked the Mini was a car and a car of choice for car enthusiasts.

Again, you really need to let this go your making an ass out of yourself.

Your not telling me anything I already know. I had a 2003 JCW MINI CooperS and went to a "MINI only" track day where someone is a "V-8 powered" C-5 Corvette come out and ran with us.

I had to have a driving instructor since I was new to the driving group. (I was already solo'd with another driving group) my instructor was a hard core air cooled Porsche 911 guy from the PCA. The only mods to my JCW (stock 205HP 2600 lbs) was a full Spax suspension (same as used in the John Cooper works Series in the UK) and some upgraded slotted rotors better pads and high temp fluid.

I wish I had a camera in my car but to be honest I was not expecting much from it being my usual track car is a 400RWHP 2500 lb. RX7, but I digress, I whooped that Corvette's ass... with a passenger..... cheering me on to "Go get him and teach him a lesson" (No latent 911 Vs. Corvette ill feelings here at all) In 1/2 a lap I was all over the Vettes ass, then as we went along he was sweating bullets as I was pushing him hard int he braking zones and turns. If it was nto for the point to pass rule in affect, I would have passed him easily I had so much more exit speed than he did it was not funny, I cannot count the amount of times I almost rear ended him and had to get on my BRAKES on the exit of a turn to keep from hitting his slow ass.

But I am sure Snipes 928 is SOOOOOO much faster than a lowly C-5 Vette on the track.

Last i checked the mini was an effete POS econobox with a very small cult following.

And i'll remember to point out to anyone that ever criticizes anything on this forum that jim thinks they're making an ass of themself.

I'm sure it will mean as little to them as it does to me.

Hahaha.

I'm sure you realize your car was not even remotely stock.

" The only mods to my JCW (stock 205HP 2600 lbs) was a full Spax suspension (same as used in the John Cooper works Series in the UK) and some upgraded slotted rotors better pads and high temp fluid. "

I mean SERIOUSLY dude. Put the same upgrades in the vette, and try again. (For all we know, the vette was merilly cruising around and was not even pushing his car hard)

And -again- this thread, and my comments, were about MINIS, not mini-coopers.
(Not that mini coopers aren't equally ghey....they are.)

How's that reading comprehension working out for you big guy?

PS: My car is very competitive with C-5 vettes on the street. Then again, i really don't care what can beat me on the track, that carries very little importance to me, i'm far more concerned with it's look, sound, and fun factor. But hey, feel free to continue to measure your penis size by what other car you think you beat on the track with your full race suspension and race brakes when the other dude may not even have been trying very hard. LOL....

An amusing IM side bar conversation i'm having while debating the merits of Minis and posting in this thread:

Simone A: so what are you up to now?
m21sniper2000: just surfing the web, and hanging out
Simone A: having fun?
m21sniper2000: Meh
m21sniper2000: arguing about cars
m21sniper2000: i am arguing that mini coopers are ghey
m21sniper2000: others are arguing that they're 2 slices of buttered coolness.
Simone A: lol
Simone A: they are pretty ghey but hey... you like what you like
Simone A: and not just becuase you say they are, but because they just are

LOL.

Here's the one we looked at- in pretty sorry shape really. It had rust, didn't run worth beans, tires rubbed on the body, gauges didn't work, interior pieces missing, etc. Guy was asking $7.5k for it.

They are fun to drive, but I wouldn't want to get hit in one!

Cheers,

Paul.

I still think you need to drive one. It may appear to be a POS econobox to the uneducated, but to a automotive conniseur it is without doubt a true classic.

You're doing the automotive equivalent of calling stilton a piece of moldy cheese without trying it. You are missing out on something great here. Honestly.

As for the "...small cult following..." you need to consider the following the car has outside of the USA. I bet it easily puts the Porsche following to shame.

Obviously the car has merits as a performance machine, i've never said it doesn't.

So does a Miata, and plenty of people call them ghey too. I actually like those, they're sports cars, not shoeboxes.

I've owned several early Cooper S's, inc a vintage legal racer and a 03 bmw mini S. All had their attributes in the twisties, embarrassing far faster machinery. But that was most likely driving ability as a big factor. Their diminutive size allows the driver to really use the road to a big advantage over other cars.
Done the Iron Bottom Motoring "tour" several times in my friend's rhd 67 Cooper S. Its more fun, if limited in top speed, than my 914-6 on this event < yeah, the 6 is like taking an Uzi to a knife fight. You always feel like david vs goliath in a mini .
They are very capable little cars , that despite the Lucas Prince of Darkness aspect, was one of the best designs to come out of GB way back.
Comparing it to modern cars is not fair, even if it can whup a bunch of them. Witness the wins in the Monte Carlo Rally over Porsche and other much faster cars in the sixties.
Its always some of a love -hate thing with the mini as well. 3 main bearings, center two pistons in sync/ outer two pistons in sync= makes for some grunt (relatively speaking ) off the turns, everything wears out with hard use, overheats without warning, and in need of upkeep . But huge grins when you can put together some mountain passes

Have your fun whipping up others here in a frenzy. I am secure with my choice of cars and what i can do with them

Are you refering to the original or the new Mini Snipe?

If its the original then you could find some interest in researching its period racing history...handing many supposedly 'better cars' their heads on a platter...and finding about the range of drivers who chose these as their personal cars of choice...

If its the new one then POS is hardly an appropriate word.. nor is Econobox...

But carrying on with your perhaps uninformed view.....well says more about you than the cars...

A car can be a perfectly competent race capable machine and still be ghey guys.

A LOT of people think the Miata is ghey, yet on the track they shine. Gheyness is about more than what a car is capable of on a course that is best suited to it's light weight and miniscule wheelbase.

You know so much about "gheyness" Snip (I mean "Snipe), that I'm starting to think you're "ghey."

That's cool if you are. It brings character to an otherwise stodgy old dude who lives life in quarter miles and gold rope chains.

Or am I unfairly stereotyping you as you have others and their choice of cars?
