2 YO and personal space

My 2YO has no concept of personal space, or for that matter no concept of a stranger.

He walk up to anyone and starts to babel and carry on with them and gets right up in there business.

When my boy was a little younger (he's 4 1/2 now) he'd call random people random things like "poochynuts". Thankfully he grew out of that. One time we were leaving the Pizza shop and he just called this random dude "Jason". That was his name. We'd never met before. Shocked the hell out of all of us.

Our 3 1/2 year old does the same thing. I think it's a good thing, not a bad thing! Tells me she's full of confidence, and is good natured.

My 4-year-old hits on girl in sight. Especially if they're older.

My son used to call everyone he. One time he walks up to a very masculine unattractive woman and said "He...." I never got such a dirty look in my life.

Let the behavior go... and hope he never grows out of it. It will make for an amazing social experiment when he gets to high school....

when I was about that age I would ALWAYS stray from my mother and go strike up a conversation with anyone who would listen.

My mother reminded me of one time in particular when she had the entire department store looking for me and when she found me I was sitting in the cafeteria with an elderly couple and enjoying some french fries. By the time she found me she had tears streaming down her face and I looked at her and asked, "why are you crying mommy? Were YOU lost?".

Children at that age often don't have a concept of being 'lost', or 'strangers'. You're not doing anything wrong.

Apparently when I was that age, I was out somewhere with my dad and said, very loudly, "boy dad, is that man ever FAT!". My dad thought he was going to get his ass kicked!

A guy I work with has a little guy that says "Wow is she pretty" loudly when he lays eyes on a good looking young lady..... Wonder where he gets that from?
My little guy (20 months) says hi to good looking women in the grocery store.... Makes shopping more fun!

Around the time of the race riots in Detroit, a very dear friend of mine was walking down the street in Windsor Ontario with her two year old daughter.
As they met a large black man, my friend's daughter called out. "Oh! Look mama, a chocolate man! I bet he tastes good!"
My friend wanted to sink into the sidewalk, but she said the guy smiled at her daughter.

Most folks, (indeed most species) make allowances for the behavior of small ones as they learn the ropes. Enjoy it, but make sure they do have limits.

It just gets better from here.
