Wonder what the foundation design looks like...how deep/shallow is the bed rock there. |

The height is accentuated by the fact that it's surrounded by desert...

If we were building nuclear power plans that concrete would be being poured in the USA. And those dollars would be staying home..

The height is also accentuated by the fact that it's really really frickin' tall.

Yes, but some moron has decided to suffocate the nuclear industry by closing down permanent waste storage for no particular reason...

I guess I'm just dwelling on the engineering aspect of the building.
I'm well aware of the fundamentals put forth in that county. And I don't like it. I have a rather large dislike for a lot of things dealing with the country that building is built over... but it doesn't stop me from viewing the building as just that: a god damned building.

From an architectural standpoint - it is almost art-deco. It is better looking than either the Taipei 101 or the Petronas towers.
The Sears Tower, I mean, Willis Tower looks dated, and the WTC Twin Towers were downright ugly. The Empire State is still the gold standard! |

Hmmm...
Here are our top ten crude oil suppliers, averaged in terms of thousands of barrels per day, year-to-date, June 29, 2009. 1 Canada 1889 2 Mexico 1196 ------------------------------------ 3 Saudi Arabia 1101 4 Venezuela 973 5 Nigeria 623 6 Angola 572 7 Iraq 548 8 Brazil 341 9 Algeria 281 10 Columbia 257 Not saying they're not frivolous with oil money, but it's mostly Europe's and Asia's oil money, not so much ours... |

Our huge demand props up the price around the world. If the USA consumed much less oil, the price would be much, much lower.
And not trying to be argumentative here - just sayin' Last edited by The Gaijin; 11-16-2009 at 11:13 AM.. |

The Chrysler Building has a discount drug store chain in the ground floor retail space facing Lexington Ave and 42nd Street.
If FIAT had any balls - they would turn it back into a showroom and fill it with cool cars and trucks. |

I don't think Chrysler has owned that building for over 60 years...
