I'm impressed with the 2010 Ford Escape crossover SUV

Got my new company car and it's the Ford Escape. I wasn't thrilled about the car choices I had, especially with the corporation choosing Ford this year for its fleet. The only motors available to me were the hybrid and the 4 cyl. I chose the 4 banger.

I'm impressed with the torque of this thing. It only has 171 but its get up and go didn't let me down. I took it over the Sierras to Reno late last week and it had no problem climbing the grade at 70+ mph, I even passed several trucks and autos along the way. The auto 4WD was flawless too.

On the way home, the storm was at full tilt. Crashes left and right of me, cars stuck in deep snow, there was a Prius facing on coming traffic because it spun out. My little Escape got me home with no drama. The only time I had to pull over was to clear the wipers of ice and snow.

The SUV also came with Microsoft Sync. That's the cool bluetooth-like wireless connection that was almost plug-and-play. It could "read" the songs I loaded onto my Blackberry and play it all wirelessly. No touching my phone at all as I can control it via the buttons on the steering wheel. The car also came with a USB connection in case I want to load and play songs off a flash drive. Cool technology.

The fit and finish is reminiscent of offerings from Honda and Toyota. Seams are tight and no squeaks. Granted I've only had it for 1200 miles but the Ford Taurus wagon I had a few years ago was a like a squeaky toy right out of the gate. The styling of the Escape is also very un-American like. No weird angles or inappropriate roundness. Just solid styling and engineering.

Anyway, I've never been a fan of Fords but if they're all going to be built like the Escape, I'd say the imports finally have some stateside competition.

well in the last reviews ford had surpassed honda and toyota in reliability and the comment was said that honda has to make something more than economic and boring cause ford has the economic and reliability now.

My neighbor is a VP at Ford and frequently tosses me the keys to whatever he brings home each quarter. I've been impressed with everything he's brought home, particularly the Flex with the 365(?) hp ecoboost. Talk about a box that hauls balls. I've been very impressed with the fit and finish on all of their recent stuff as well. I'm looking forward to when he brings home an SHO.

Recent Ford stuff that I've seen has also impressed me. Even in the last few years their quality has dramatically improved. They seem to have realized that quality cars will attract customers, and lo and behold are actually turning a profit (and without a bailout).

Personally I'm looking forward to the new Focus. Finally the same great car as the euro model, it should be a great new entry into the compact segment. Hopefully we get the RS as well.

Car Salesman: Yeah, the Bronco’s been discontinued. We’re trying to shed that whole fugitive on the run thing. This is the Escape.

Heaven forbid that we defend a USA car manufacturer here.

Not yet 3,000 miles on my Ford, but hey, it's a good driver...It's true that it's not a Porsche, that's why I bought it.

Ford RS?

Is that a toned-down version of the Ford GT?

My wife is still driving her 04 Thunderbird, it had more HP than the Mustang GT that year and is a pretty good car, just doesn't fit a six footer well with the canvas top up. I just haven't seen a new Ford I want, she want's, or we would be moving up.

Here is the "regular" Focus from Europe.

Here is the Focus from the USA.

We're also getting the Fiesta in 2011, which is supposed to be a great car.

I never understood why an American automaker sold their best cars in Europe. Obviously they have finally gotten the hint.

I would also be remiss by not posting a picture of the SVT Raptor, pretty much the most insane new car being sold by an American maker. No idea why, but I think it's cool as hell.

had an Escape rental in Canada the last 2 weeks. it was badass!

i couldn't afford a new one down here but if i could i'd be interested. I would also like a Ford Falcon XR6 turbo, maybe with a few FPV go-fast bits. I have an acquaintance with a Typhoon thats had a healthy kick in the pants and does 11.79@117 before he did some more work on it.

I worked with Alan Mulally, Ford's CEO, back when he was a VP at Boeing on the 777 airplane program. If anybody can turn a company around, he can. He's a rock star.
