We just hit a "level pay" average for the next 12 months of $660. I am in shock to say the least. I seems like just yesterday it hit $550.

Details - A little more than 3000 sq ft 2 story house built in 1987, reasonably well insulated
- Two 27 Cu Ft refrigeratirs
- Large swimming pool
- 2 pcs
- Two adults, 3 teens
- 14 seer new hvac
- new high e windows throughout

What the heck? I know the kids leave the lights on, and the pool is a drain, but is this normal? What is everyone else paying? /rant off

my new level pay is around $30 a month

In the beautiful Pacific Northwest: $408/month. No swimming pool, New 95% efficiency gas furnace, 2 adults, 2 PC's, a 220 heater in the garage and one in the woodshop. It used to be higher! We haven't been billed since the new furnace. We' see.

Holy cow! I pay $230 per month to San Diego Gas & Electric. 1500 sq ft single story poorly insulated house built in 1960, pool (not heated), old furnace, no AC, High E windows.

$660 seems outsane!

If it makes you feel any better ours dropped 35% when the two girls left for college.

I still am not sure if you are talking per month or per year.

Out of curiosity I looked in our checkbook. Our last month's electricity bill was $56.

BTW - Oldest leaves for college in Michigan in the Fall.

You might check the attic...not for insulation but to see if one of the kids has set up a grow room.:D

I am guessing our average bill is about $225 was 95 last month when we ran no A/C Our KWH rate is 15.5. cents i think.

Highest in summer 436 lowest about 90. I don't think I could get lower unless I turned off the water heater and unplugged the Refrigerator

You don't say where you live. Is there much heating/cooling needed? I'm in Texas and it's definately needed summer and midwinter. Spring and Fall not so much

That is incredible. You have to earn $10,000 per year just to pay your residential electricity bill.

We took up the elec. co. on their offer to put on a switch on our AC where they can cut it off remotely during peak periods. Our bill went down after that. We rarely use our AC anyways, and the times we have, it has never been cut off. Maybe try that?

You must be in some kind of major "overuse" penalty or something.

Sounds like you are a good candidate for an energy audit to see where you money is going.

Drain that pool out and charge dipso $5/day to come and skate it.

Three adults, 4 young children, 3K sq. ft. house on geothermal heat, detached 6 stall garage at 55 degrees on electric resistance heat, northern WI. Electric, water, sewer and nat. gas (H2O heater) bill last month...$320.

Considering what you posted, $600.00 (a month) is certainly possible. It all adds up quickly. Is that measured, or estimated? In some areas, the power company will estimate rather than measure if for whatever the reason, taking the measurement is in the slightest bit difficult for their meter readers.

The question then becomes if it is measured, is it correct? May I suggest you conduct an energy audit so that you can (a) understand where the power is going, in what quantity, and at what time of day; (b) going from most power consumed to least power consumed, evavluate options to reduce the amount of power.

I pay about 10% of that and I thought I was getting hosed!

Electric heat in the garage
All lighting is compact flourescent
Outside sodium yard light
3 outside lamps on elect eyes
8 camera surviellence system on 24/7 with overwrighting dvr
Various battery, cell chargers,
Slow cook elect Crock Pot that the wife always uses.
Summer, pool pump running 6 hrs per day minimum, 7 days a week.
12 deck lights on a timer from 8PM- 3AM
3.5 ton central ac running from May thru October, on all the time. Hot flashes....don't ask, my house is like a friggin ice box.
Oh, the best part....Toto Washlet bidet toilet seat. With heated seat, front & rear cleansing and heated fan to blow dry your azz, on 24/7

Natural gas hot water & heat.

$239 on level pay

My electric bill averages about $75 a month. Electric stove, fridge, washer/dryer. 2000 sq/ft house in Charlotte, NC. Nat gas water heater and furnace.

One advantage to an apartment. SoCalEdison bill for last month was $29, and my SoCalGas bill was $25.

Then again, this is a 2br apartment, only one tv (not on very often) about 1100 sq ft. Maybe you should downsize... ;)
