Caprica

So I've never seen an episode of "Battlestar Galactica" before... but just watched the pilot episode of "Caprica" on Hulu which from my understanding is some sort of prequel.

Pretty frakking good. I'm hooked.

legion 12-14-2009 06:23 AM

Yep. Series starts in January. I hope it can live up to the pilot.

I was a HUGE BSG fan I didn't see how "lawyers in space" could translate well.

I was wrong.

Z-man 12-14-2009 06:27 AM

Can't wait. I feel Ron D. Moore is one of the better producers of scifi shows. I'll miss the old BSG cast, but the new show looks promising...

Lead actress, Paula, was at our home for lunch yesterday. Absolute gem, she is.

This will be what I watch now that Dollhouse isn't coming back.

Which is sad because Dollhouse is getting insanely good. I'm hoping for a movie a la Serenity.

I liked how the Caprica pilot packed in so much stuff. It didn't really sow down to explain things, just wham, stuff is goin down. No cylons to cylons in 1 episode.

legion 12-14-2009 08:42 AM

Dollhouse was REALLY good on Friday.

Too bad the my cable (on both the analogue and digital feeds) cut out the audio for the middle 20 minutes of the first episode.

Oh, and I think DeWitt is a former doll.

I guess they go into the "attic" in the next episode...

Z man; Pm me with your address. I will mail you some form of Caprica swag.

DeWitt and Topher both cannot be dolls as they both were exposed to the bioagent in the episode of the first season that makes them really high, whereas the dolls glitch out and go nuts. Topher's evolving moral compass is what makes the show interesting to me. Earlier this season where he had to hack up the dead guy because he let Sierra out and she killed him... brilliant.

But back to Caprica... as with any movie or TV series, I have to go read up as much as I can to spoil it for myself before I see the rest... and so I've been reading about the BSG worlds..

If I'm getting this gist of this, it is that there are 12 colony planets that were inhabited by 12 human tribes long long ago, all 12 of the planets are in the same solar system and are governed together but all are different cultures and slightly different beliefs. Originally there were 13 tribes, but 1 tribe decided to inhabit a far away planet called Earth.

this is neat-o.

I said "former" doll. The un-named boss made a comment that she "used to be pretty" in the last episode. Knowking Joss Wedon's style, this was an intentional clue. She probably had the "active architecture" removed, but like Hotel California, "you can check out, but you can never leave".

There is so much more to it than that. ;)

Is that the one where the Cling-Ons rule over New Caprica?
Metal chassis really does something for the body line ... I wonder if they get fat?

Watched parts on and off ... way different than the Original Galactica story.

Schumi 01-04-2010 11:25 AM

The network season premier is on Jan. 22.

I'm anxiously awaiting the second episode. The premier covered a hell of a lot of ground in an hour and a half... can't wait to see where it goes.

No - this is a whole new series - it is a prequel to the Battlestar Galactica series. It goes through the whole creation of the cylons and such...

legion 01-04-2010 02:35 PM

Well.....a creation of the Cylons...

creaturecat 01-04-2010 02:48 PM

I have 1 more Caprica dash card.
Want it, Legion? pm me with your address.

I read that they'd ran out of Ideas for Caprica after a few episodes and shut down production. This was some months back. Is that true?

Bit of a shake-up went on, including a re-write to modify a character.
Still shooting season 1, until the end of January.

m21sniper 01-04-2010 03:16 PM

OK, thanks. The way i'd read the article, it made it sound like the show was practically stillborn.
