Barber shops within close proximity to military bases are your best bet IMO. They are typically reasonable (cheap), and they are no-nonsense operations. Usually very good shaves (head/face) with straight razors as well. As a "bonus" the one here near Luke AFB usually has bootleg movies running on the TV before they even hit theaters!

I go to a stylist, same guy for the last 7 years, he is a car guy, looks like a Rock-a-billy and is straight (He knocked up one of the hotties there he was dating) and the owner is also a straight car guy, but they have some stripper looking chicks working there. Where Nick's station is I can check out the girls in the mirrors:D |

Be happy that you have hair to get cut. My barber won't charge me for a hair cut, she charges me a finding fee:eek: |

Go to local shop as well. Warm shave cream and straight razors. No women and decent conversation. Its a lost art.

I wouldn't let one of the supercuts people near me with a straight razor, very scary thought. |
I've been going to the same Korean lady who has a place just outside the gate at NAS Patuxent River since I was first stationed there in the late '80's.
She is right out of central casting: the head and neck rubs, straight razor, great cuts and conversation is golden. Her older daughter worked for me as an intern during the summers, 4.0 at Maryland, great kid. Her youngest daughter is a plebe at the Air Force Academy. Quote:

Stylists? You guys use stylists? K so I'm bald now but a freakin' stylist? How about a barber named Tony in a shop with a stack of Playboys on the counter?

$20 for a hair trimmer about every 5 years.
I could use a stylist for my chest/back/butt hair, though |
My wife actually picked out the lady that cuts my hair. She was working at the place my wife goes but has since opened her own shop. She is very easy on the eyes. She is the hottest woman I get to interact with.
I am one of the few of her male customers. She does a full face and head trim on my each visit. |

When I worked at the Pentagon, I would go to the one in the concourse....that place was hoppin!! It took like 3 minutes or something. Military places are the best. |
There's a local barbershop that charges $5.75 for a haircut. Take a number, you get whichever of the 4 barbers is next. They're probably ex-military, they cut your hair the way they think it needs to be cut. No comments, no custom stuff, just a haircut. In and out in 10 minutes.
The irony is, it always turns out just right. No drama, no problems, no BS. Just a good haircut for a cheap price. |

Wow, those prices are high. For $18 you can go to the Mercer Island barber shop and get your choice of a blonde, brunette, or redhead. They're all great, but the blonde is a little rough..

My GF cuts my hair now and she does a pretty good job. Prior to that, I've had every hair cutting experience you can describe. But yeah, I agree that a traditional barber shop is where a man should get a hair cut. And as far as I am concerned, the finest hair cuts I have ever had were done with a razor. "Roffler" technique.
