What is this car?
OK, you 911 guys always have the answer. We're stumped on a racing forum...what is this car??
http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL10.../379527640.jpg I think it;s an Alfa based one off project. .... |
looks italian, can't say much more than that. those headlight fairings look like pipe cut open and welded in.
Looking at the bonnet opening I would guess an Alfa Romero based "special".
The typically Italian Steering wheel of the 70s is a good clue. Is that a through hood filler for fuel??? Could this be a VW Beetle or 356 special? It's a quality build considering the mostly metal construction. The front flares could have been added at a later date. ...Someone's dream build for a long time from a long time ago... |
The most striking thing is that the headluights are built into the hood.
The air intake certainly looks like an alfa but I have my doubts unless is was some form of spider prototype |
Perhaps a flared out TVR project. light buckets and bottom grill area look similar, but the center front hood scoop looks very Italian.
An Alpine without its roof.
French
I agree, Alpine A110 minus roof
Looks like a healey Bugeye Sprite that has been reworked.
it looks French to me, it looks too weird to be Italian.
Not an expert - but couldn't find an Alpine with that snout on it.
Nice looking car though. It has an interesting, and familiar, look and stance to it http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1261150686.jpg |
Not an Alpine, nor a Sprite. It's an ALFA Duetto or Spyder that's fallen under the curse of the amateur kustomiser.
Alpines are fiberglass, with a simple backbone chassis, so that would have been a good trick
agreed that a lot of work had gone into it. would love to see side and back pics of it too interesting.... |
The front hood is unlike a Alpine and the lights are to inboard to match the Alpine. The Alpines headlights are fender mounted like 911. these seem to be more central on the hood iteself. But the flares and shape look Renaultish and those lower side openings for lights are very interesting. That hole on the hood could be gas opening so it may have had race applications. And it has a possible Prototipoish steering wheel.
Looks cool though |
I agree..I kinda want to take it home!
The hood scoop & bump look like '58 Ford.
I wanna say kit car, that same style steering wheel was used on VWs too, plus looks like fiberglass in the back, and an opening, could be to get to the tranny, and the extra hole in the hood, maybe for fuel, scoop could be just for looks. Really need more pix to be sure.
E30 next to it... :D
Looks like a lot of work and a sure fire way to piss off my wife if I was to drag it into my garage!
Every one of you is wrong that is a red Rabbit cabriolet
If it is fiberglass would it have that surface rust?
