Christmas is cancelled

The roads are so bad in St. Louis, my family is canceling Christmas - for today.

We all come from different directions to meet at Grandma's house. Portions of every major highway in the St. Louis Metro area are closed due to multi-vehicle accidents.

Black ice, very dangerous.

For all you CA boys (and girls), black ice is when the roads look fine, just wet. It's snowing outside, but since the roads look clear, traffic moves at a good pace. All of a sudden your vehicle becomes unstable, no brakes or steering.

Makes for a crappy Christmas in a tow truck or hospital.

Merry Christmas All!!

We are taking the opportunity to watch some movies with the kids and play with our new toys.

We are in Port Huron today and it is raining like mad. I'm hoping it doesn't freeze before we head home tonight.

We are waiting to eat lunch and then we will watch the movie "UP" together.

Oklahoma City had the biggest single day snow storm EVER in our recorded history. 14 inches, with 50-60 mph winds. The drifts around our house are crazy. We are stuck at home. The electricity is on and we have food & beer. We may be stuck for days.

So you feel my pain. You don't know anyone with a snow blower do you? I need to go shovel my driveway. I need a snow blower big time.

I was going to make a comment about Missouri drivers... but what's the point? Merry Christmas!
Actually the roads are good here in Edwardsville, we're heading out to the movie theater in a while...
At least it's a white Christmas! How often does THAT happen around here?

I've got a plow and a tractor with a bucket loader on it you can borrow.
Guess it's not gonna snow up here this winter.

Glen if I had access to a snow blower I'd be using it right now. We're looking at needing to fire up the case front end loader w/ bucket to clear the drifts just to get to the street then clear the pile of snow the plow trucks have put in front of the drive! I've got an average of 12 inches+ of snow on the ground with 4 foot plus drifts in areas.

We had to cancel X mas as well here, All 3 of us have been sick for the last couple days, but last night, my kid and I came down with the projectile vomit/ soft serve flu. We did not want to pass it around to the rest of the family, so we are just hanging out at home, playing with the new toys, and eating some good food.
Nice relaxing day. We were supposed to get freezing rain, but it was not soo bad, temps are up, and it is just raining here.
Merry X mas to all of my pelican brothers, ( and sisters)

Anybody remember the blizzard of 77'? The reserves had to dig most of Western NY out and had drifts up to the telephone lines, not to mention the -65 temps. :-(

black ice is not fun, nor is what I call pencil eraser ice. We don't get salt for the roads and since we can only use studless tires the tires smooth the ice to a nice shine that is normally hidden but a fine coat of powder snow ! Makes
every intersection a potential accident.

And just rant a bit I really hate when the streets turn into a U shape and your car keeps sliding into the middle of the road and at the same time cars from the opposite direction are having the
same fun :-(

SE Wisconsin - snowed fast enough Wed evening the plows couldn't keep the interstate clear and took 3x longer to get home. By 11pm changed to freezing rain for over night so had 3in snow w/ crusty top to clear yesterday and by late afternoon it was raining relatively heavy. There is just something wrong having rain in WI for Christmas. Got to low 40's today and dropped to freezing by about 6pm with light snow. Side streets, back roads icing but main roads weren't too bad yet when I got home at 830. Of course I wouldn't have wanted to clear the amt of snow we would have gotten if the rain had been snow.

It barely snowed here in St Louis also.

At 5 AM it was 45 degrees with light rain.

At 8 AM it was 26 degrees and windy.

And a heated garage! I spent a ton of time out there. Cold beer, warm garage, and a Porsche project to work on. It take years of planning to get it right.

Strange indeed.

When we left Port Huron(east side of Michigan) it was 40 degrees and the sun was out. I was planning to get the 911 out when we got home as the roads were mostly dry and the heavy rain had washed the salt off. no, uh-uh

By noon, it was snowing a bit and the temp dropped down below freezing. She'll have to wait for another day.
