Mass shooting/terror averted in NJ!

Cache Of Weapons Found In NJ Motel Room

The FBI says a man charged with multiple weapons offenses after a cache of weapons and maps of a military facility were found in his New Jersey motel room has no known terrorism link.

Special Agent Bryan Travers says the FBI was asked to investigate after Lloyd Woodson of Reston, Va. was arrested early Monday.

The arrest came after a report that the 43-year-old was acting suspiciously in a convenience store before dawn in Branchburg.

Prosecutors say he was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a semiautomatic rifle.

They say they found a cache of weapons in his motel room, including rifles, a grenade launcher and a night vision scope. They say he also had maps of a U.S. military facility and a town outside New Jersey.

Virginia, huh?

Did he attend the same mosque as Nidal Hasan?

Oh Crap, now they're gonna go and make that illegal too. Where the hell are you supposed to keep your stash of weapons and grenade launchers?

Wait a minute. This can't be right. NJ's gun laws are super strict. This guy might be charged with state gun crimes now. I bet he'd have been scared off, had he known how much trouble he could get in, having all those guns in NJ.

It's the vest that'll do him in.

Hey guys, how about lets look at the guy in the light for a change. Another frigging muslim extremist is my guess.

~~~~~
Forrest said the .223-caliber assault rifle that Woodson was carrying had a defaced serial number and had been altered to fire .50-caliber ammunition.
Detectives later searched the room where Woodson had been staying at the Red Mill Inn in Branchburg. Forrest said they seized another Bushmaster .308-caliber semiautomatic rifle with a defaced serial number, a 37 mm Cobray grenade launcher, a second bulletproof vest, a Russian-made night vision scope, a police scanner, a map of a U.S. military installation and a map of an out-of-state civilian community, a Middle Eastern red and white colored traditional headdress and hundreds of rounds of .50-caliber and .308-caliber ammunition.
How/why does someone bother with a .223 to .50 cal. conversion? Wouldn't it be easier the other way around?
Well regardless, my kudos to the citizens that tipped off the cops, and the cops that snatched him up.
This could have been a major terrorist event, and now 99% of America will never even know it happened.
wow an altered .223 that shoots .50 cal rounds.......................
excuse me i think i'll be leaving the range today.
they probably should have let him shoot that damn thing and blown his head off when the receiver comes apart!
would have saved us some money in court costs.
I'm guessing that he probably had one of the single-shot uppers on an AR lower.
.50 Beowolf, guys, not BMG. It's like a .50 S&W, or about like a .45-70 ballistically. Pretty common on the AR platform these days.
You can bet your asses if he looked Middle Eastern, had a Muslim sounding name, or any other now "hands off" attributes, the citizens who tipped off law enforcement would have been the ones in trouble. Profiling, you know. With a good ol' Christian name, he was fair game for our PC law enforcement. I wish I were just being sarcastic...
Wearing that funny rag on his head, or even having it in his possession is a sure tip-off. Just wish that the TSA would figure this out...
Actually, profiling is a particularly sticky issue in NJ. It's probably the only way you can get out of something resulting from a traffic stop. The cops pretty much ignore a lot of federal law there, but they need a real good reason to stop you, so the profiling card cannot be played in court to toss out a larger case.
I thought the 37mm launchers were OK, since they are really a flare gun. This is a bit questionable. I guess it woukd depend on the ammo he has.
The rifles are not illegal, well, not federally. I do not know about NJ law with rifles. Defacing the serial numbers is bad ju ju.
I'm not defending the guy, but what did he do that is illegal, at least so far?
All that stuff is totally illegal in NJ. I don't even think that body armor is legal there. And if he had any expanding ammunition at all, he's looking at a $1000/6mo jail sentence for EVERY such bullet in his possession.
I'm sure carrying a rifle and wearing a vest in public is a huge felony in NJ. Once they got to his room, just about everything in there is a felony in NJ. He could go away for life on those gun charges.
