Going Back to London january 6-20 anyone around?

I'll be in London for our film "John Carter of Mars" from 1/6-1/20 if anyone wants to get dinner or a beer in the evening. I'll be free the weekend of the 8th and 9th as well. I don't know where I'll be staying yet.

Damn, I have been waiting a long time for that book series to be made into a movie. Personally I think they were some of Edgar Rice Burroughs best writing.

$180 million movie with $80 million in computer visual effects. We shoot 1/18/2010 to mid April in London and May to mid-June 2010 in southern Utah. I think it releases in Xmas of 2011.

Leaving tonight at 5 PM, arrive around noon tomorrow. The weather is snow and sleet, should be fun. Anyone else besides Michel (MFAFF) want to get together one evening?

Michel (MFAFF) and I had a great time tonight. Had what he swears are the best fish and chips in London, and I'd believe it. Two pints at the local pub. He rides a bicycle around town, so we put his gear in my hotel room before walking a block to dinner. We get back and I find my hotel room door ajar! I'm thinking WTF, I didn't pull it completely shut when I left. I get in the room after Michel has left and nothing is missing, but I do have fresh towels, and a bucket of partially melted ice on the desk. I walk down to the front lobby and thank them for the towels and ice, BUT I'd found my door ajar. The night manager is really, really sorry and wants to come up to read the door lock card reader. She brings the night security manager and yes, they can see that I opened the door at 7:29 PM when we put Michel's gear in my room and that one of the room service people entered at 8:03 PM. They check the door and verify that when you open it, it won't self latch, you have to pull it shut. So they ask when tomorrow it would be convenient to have building engineering come and adjust the door. I mean they took this issue really seriously. The night Manager then sent up to my room a few complimentary drink coupons for the bar and a personal note apologizing for the "incident".

BTW, here is a pic of Michel and me at the local pub. I'm the bald guy on the left.

I met Michel here a few months ago working while I was working on the same movie. It turns out he grew up about three doors down from a house I lived in in Oxford when I was 14 y/o. He sent me a few pics of that house when he went back home to his parents place. Small worldl.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. There are a lot of fantastic people on PP and I've probably met about 100 of them. Some I'd disagreed with strongly on PPOT and PARF, but I don't think I've ever type something that I wouldn't say to a persons face. EVERY Pelican I've met has been nothing but thoughful, insightful, intelligent, and a delight to be with. I've gotten support in difficult situations, I've been given, and given, access to cool places that are not open to the public, it's a great fraternity, without the weird initiation rites.

C'mon Hugh, you go to England and order a Weizenbier? You should be drinking a Black and Tan! By the way i resolved that syringe issue, thanks for your input I'll fill you in when you get back.

Dave, what are you talking about? I am smiling, you don't want to see me mad.

Craig, I'm not drinking a Weizenwhatever, its a local organically made 5.0% lager.

Call me next week when I get back to El Aye.

Craig is referring to an issue regarding getting medical syringers for TV productions, which are sort of regulated.

Hugh,

Great to see you again and enjoy the local hostelry. Sorry to hear about the door...I thought you were just damn quick with the card.

Glad nothing was missing tho'.

A good evening...the fish and chips were great...and for a central London place pretty reasonable.

As for the beer....it was good to get a decent brew in such a place.. too often they have the usual favourites....and they are all pretty bland. The bitter I had was certainly a keener taste than most.

See you soon.
