What is the best way to send a deposit to someone in the UK?

What is the best way to send a deposit to someone in the UK?

I have a trip to the UK scheduled for March. The purpose of the trip is to scatter the ashes of my parents who both passed away in the last year. My father, who was born in Liverpool, requested that his ashes be scattered at Anfield, the home pitch for the LiverpoolFC. The club has been great in getting things arranged for this.

My mother was born in London. She wanted her ashes scattered on the Thames. Now, there are a few commercial operations that do this. But, I found something much more interesting that I know my mother would have really appreciated. There is a group in Britain called the Maritime Volunteer Service. The MVS is a charity that teaches maritime skills and naval heritage to the public. For the ceremony, the crew will be naval uniform. Also, the ship is one of the few non-military vessels the Queen allows to fly a Defaced Red Ensign. Being a true Brit, my mother would have loved to witness such a send off.

Now, here comes my question. The MVS will do this for a donation to the unit's running costs. I intend to make a significant donation and have already arranged everything, including the time/date. However, I need to send them a "deposit" of £100 to hold the date. What's the best way of doing this? Should I just write a check from my bank in US funds and send it to them? Is there a better way of doing this? They don't take credit cards.

Thanks for any tips.

International bank transfer. You need the BIC and IBAN numbers for their account. Their bank will give them these numbers and they should give them to you. Then just give them to your bank.

Indeed - a wire transfer from your to their account. Don't send a check.

I think your parents would have been very pleased with the arrangements you are making.

Thanks to everyone that responded to this thread or sent me a PM. I appreciate everyone's input and offers to help.

I'm going to contact the MVS on Monday and try to arrange a wire transfer.

For those who offered to meet up for a drink, I'll be firming up my schedule in the next week. The only dates that are certain right now are March 25th at Anfield and March 28th on the Thames. I'm sure I'll be able to find some time for a few pints.
