Live with? As in 'daily driver'? That's a no brainer. One rides nice, has street tires, and comes with a 100K mile warranty. The other is almost a track toy.

my Ccar buddy is gonna love this ;)
Check out the profile differences, that vette is tiny in comparison.

as for exc publishing..... C'mon? who really cares, the facts are the facts.

likely right and I have to admit, this car is an amazing piece from the Bow tie brigade. It's got a whack like no other but the build quality keeps it a few steps back. I must admit they are pretty intoxicating for they're shear pace.

It's 'build quality' is 'lower' because it's -what- about 60 GRAND less than the Porsche equivalent? Oh, right, Porsche has no equivalent to the ZR1, not for any price. :D

STILL would pay $80k for a used GT3 vs. $35k for a Vette.....if i had the $$.

STILL wouldn't trade my 40yr old 170hp 911 for a spanking new Vette (unless I could sell it!).

Well that attitude makes no sense at all. Are you that married to the little gold crest that you'll stick with a grossly inferior car that costs 40-50% more than the Vette?

kaisen 01-18-2010 11:34 AM

'Build quality' is not the same as 'material choice' or 'fit and finish', but people often use them interchangeably

Touche'

Well i've fixed plenty of old vettes and i can compare them to my 928 and say that while the 928 is built more sturdily(and therefore is much heavier than it has to be), it breaks just as much as a Cheby.

For the difference you'd pay between a new 911 GT whatever vs a Vette you'd have 50 large in change to go get all the fit and finish and interior upgrades your heart could ever want.

Ahhh, but the extra 50 large buys the Porsche Mystique...the Panache...the status.

m21sniper 01-18-2010 11:48 AM

Or a "top end" turntable...

LOL.

Could care less about the crest and whether it has orange bars or red bars.

In fact I rarely tell anyone I own a Porsche.

But then I don't own the car I do because it's the fasted thing on the planet. If that were my desire I'd surely be driving something else.

I own (and LOVE) my 911 because it farking rocks. I can see out of it like no other sports car, the handling is a freaking hoot, the interior is all business and the sound is like no other. There will ALWAYS be a faster car out there and while C6's look fantastic on the outside the minute I sat in one I lost all interest. It's just not what i'm after.

Heck, it's ludicrous that you own/drive a 928 when you could get a much faster Vette.

I sat in a C6 and it was a completely forgettable experience.

Sat in a GT3RS and it was religous for me. It made me want to turn the key and go piss all over some traffic cop's donut break. The Vette reminded me of my coworkers Chevy pickup.

My automotive desires aren't based on 0-60 or even lap times. Screw being the fastest guy, I can't afford it.

You might notice that most here don't talk about 928's the same way they do the 911.

That is to say you are talking about something else entirely.

Targa Me 01-18-2010 12:01 PM

GM Corvette = 30k miles on it and it'll begin to rattle and squeak.
Porsche 911 = I've 179k miles on it and its as tight as can be.

Not for the money. Which is why i own a 928 to begin with. Because i got it for cheap. :)

Funny. My 102k mile 928 has squeaked and rattled since the day i got it 7 years ago. And the dashes on them are known for cracking, and the wheel well covers in the interior are known for deforming over time due to the heat shining on them through the quarter windows, etc, etc, etc.

Seriously, old 911's are fargin' oil dripping rust buckets. Sell that nonsense elsewhere.

pwd72s 01-18-2010 12:08 PM

Seems EXCELLENCE reached it's goal...selling magazines through controversy.

Yes, you are right, the 928 is a far more sophisticated and complex machine than the older air cooled VW derived 911's are. They are not comparable.

Most Porsche people are into 911's for the same reason they're into Rolex's. Because it impresses their rich stuck up friends.

VINMAN 01-18-2010 12:12 PM

I think some of you guys just have your pantys in a bunch because the Pcar got its pee-pee smacked by an "American" car.

pwd72s 01-18-2010 12:15 PM

Well, I'd love to follow this thread more. But since I now don't want to buy another Porsche because of the hassles of going to Portland for good service, and I'll never buy anything made by Government Motors, I'm about to fire up a beater non status Mustang & head for my favorite pool hall...:D

And yet your POS build quality (per the above statement) is still MUCH more solidly built than Vettes.

Good stuff sniper!
