Rover Disco ate it...

Well, after 4 years of good service, my rebuilt salvage cert. Disco finally ate it at 150K. Power loss, oil smoke, and sounds like a gremlin with a ball peen hammer banging on the block. Haven't drained the oil yet, but expecting to find bearing remains. It has been a servicable truck, but I just don't have the time or space to pull the motor and it really wouldn't be worth my while when done.
I know there are several here that have Discos, so if anyone is interested in a complete 96 with 150K, r-title, and a motor knock, PM me. I am putting it on Craigslist for 1,000 OBO--that includes the ARB warn mount front bull bar, rear ladder, safari-style roof rack(not in pic)--decent tires(spare was bought 4-years ago and has never been down). It is epsom green/tan cloth interior and has the rear jump seats. I am in Pittsburgh.

Too bad that hardware won't fit my Bronco (162k miles ;)).

I was thinking SBC--my buddy has an 88 305 H.O. yanked from his IROC, but my garage has 2 motorcycles sitting in it with one halfway disassembled, and I am pressed for time for the next several months at least--so time for it to go.

:D

Eric:

Strongly suggest you sell the ARB separately.

Or part the whole thing out if you have the time?

Maybe list it on Discoweb? Edit: Someone on Discoweb already saw it!

Sorry for your loss!

Paul.

+1. Easily get more than $1K for easy parts.

Yeah--I thought about parting it, but I would have to keep it in my yard under a tarp and don't want to deal with pulling parts, shipping, etc.

I am selling the roof rack seperately--I had the thing on C-list twice with no takers--suddenly everybody wants to buyt the rack as a stand alone.

As for the ARB--that is the majority of the value as the Rover currently sits--if I pull it and sell seperately, I would have to go the whole nine yards in parting the entire Rover.

Hopefully someone from Discoweb will buy it!:D

If your were closer, I'd be trying to trade for it & start hunting for a Buick Grand National motor;)

Among its innovations, the third-generation model introduced a separate chassis and monocoque body construction, air suspension from the Range Rover, new Ford-PSA developed V6 diesel, ZF six-speed auto and Land Rover's laudable Terrain Response offroad system.

With all these Discos blowing up, can a crate or Ford / Chevy V8 be dropped in? I see decent later model Discos that have engine isssues and was thinking there has to be someon ethat has dropped in an engine fromw a wrecked F-150 from the junker.

If I was gunna do all that work... I'd want a Chevy 350... Not a ford....

Do it. The only cure is ownership!

Been there, done that ('97 Disco). If it's not the motor it'll be something else... Rust, electrical, rust, crumbling interior plastic, rust, window regulators, rust, oil sludge, oh and did I mention rust?

Speedo959 01-22-2010 05:27 PM

Several engine options I've looked into...6.5 turbo diesel or the original 2.5 turbo diesel from the UK. There is a guy I found who will ship everything I needed for roughly 2 to 2,500 total to my door.
