SCAM: $3500 Lexicon Blu-Ray player is really a $500 Oppo inside

Oppo on the Inside, Lexicon on the Outside — Reviews and News from Audioholics

Blatant scam! I wonder if Lexicon will make it through this...

"Possibly the funniest shot was the one we took of the bottom of the Lexicon BD-30 Blu-ray player. Here you can see that they literally cut out the aluminum bottom to make space for the vent holes of the Oppo's chassis. If you didn't "get" that Lexicon actually put a full Oppo BDP-83 INSIDE of a chassis, slapped a label on it and is shipping it for $3000 more, this photo should help. Of course, they did add a Lexicon splash screen to the menu system (which, by the way, is identical to the Oppo except that some items are reordered) and a billet aluminum faceplate is certainly nice.

So where is our review of the Lexicon BD-30, you ask? It's right here in our review of the Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player. We see no reason to waste the time or energy in reviewing the Lexicon when they clearly just put an Oppo BDP-83 into a new case. What did, however, run a series of benchmark tests on the Lexicon player to see if it measured identically to the Oppo BDP-83. As you will see, the results are quite astounding and speak volumes about THX and their certification requirements. "

No kidding. For an extra 3000 what could a BluRay player do that you can't get out of a $200, $300, or $500 player.

I guess these are targetted at the folks with more money than brains.

It's amazing what people will spend money on. Here's a turntable that's going for $25k, used. It retails for $60k. Oh, and the tone arm's not included!

Davinci Turntable

That thing looks like a work of art, but $60,000 for a turntable? What kind of records is this guy listening to?

The law of diminishing returns, lads. To get the last 1% you have to spend exponentially more. The Golf versus the Veyron. It is worth it if you have the desire + the cash.

The Lexicon is not worth it as the review proved.

LOL...whatever. Anyone that would spend $50k on a turntable should be exterminated so their stupidity doesn't infect others.

How does it make them stupid? It's not like they are spending that $50k on a turntable rather than food for their family. They simply have so much money that they literally do not know what else to do with it. And ultimately they support whatever company (and the employees) is making the product. More power to them.

This would be more like the 996 body on the Toyota that someone posted here a while back.

Perhaps at the point where you are considering overpaying for something by a factor of 100x you should just give the money out to random strangers.

Seriously....$50k for a turntable, or $10k for a purse, these people are fking whacked and have waaaaaaaay too much money for their own good. The reason we pay $15 for a stinkin' movie ticket or $100 for a freakin' football game ticket is so that these clowns can get themselves utterly and blatantly ripped off just to impress their "friends."

It boggles the mind.

There are guys that pay that kind of Ka-ching for the latest bling bling interconnect cables and power cords for their two channel rigs.

I laugh at THOSE guys all the friggen time.

My Heritage Klipsch HT uses standard 14AWG zip cord.

Be careful Snipe... You're awfully close to saying we ought to "redistribute" their wealth.

Dude, when somebody has so much money that they are overpaying for products by a factor of 100x just to impress their buddies, i think that we probably should redistribute their wealth.

I am all for enjoying the fruits of your labor, but it gets to a point where to poor and middle class people it just seems like it's rubbing it in your face.

Seriously, what kind of an utter ass spends $50k on a piece of stereo equipment? One who has far, far, far more money than sense, that's who.

They are likely just as sensible as you or me, they just have that much money.

I am assuming you hold the same opinion about Veyron owners?
