Is this a fair trade??

One of my good buddies carrera is in need of some serious maintenance. It needs a clutch, shifter/ coupler rebuild, pedal console rebuild, all of the typical fuel lines are dry rotted, and while we are in there , plugs, filters, valve adjust , trans fluid change, a couple of oil lines etc..
He is short on cash, he is a great guy, and always helps me out when I need him, and he is a good worker, (lousy mechanic though).
I offered to do all of this work, and supply most of the parts, ( I have most of the stuff in stock) except the clutch, and in exchange , I am asking for his help to paint my parents house this spring. It is a typical size older 3 bedroom home , 2 story, not very high .
I figure that I can have all of the work done to his car in one weekend, but it will probably take us 2 weekends, maybe more to paint the house.
While It will take me less time to mend his old cabriolet, than it will to paint the house, the retail cost of the two jobs are probably pretty close.
What do you guys think? Am I giving him a fair shake?

painting absolutely sucks...if he agrees, you win. but all in all, i say fair trade. you will be out more money if you are matching $ for $.

Do you both feel good about it?

Will both of you keep up your end of the bargain?

(who buys supplies for the house?)

If it feels good to both of you than it's fair. That's what buddies are for.

If there is an offset, it will work itself out down the road.

He loves to paint, so do I .

Are you both satisfied with the deal? That's all that is important.

Make him do the prep work.....painting isn't so bad when ya got a slave to do the scut work.....

Are you trading? Or agreeing to an IOU?

Trading is one thing, dealing with IOUs or promissory notes is another. Interesting how the two would be even remotely comparable.

If you do decide to go through with this, please do tell us how it turns out. It will be interesting to see if a certain level of service performed now translates to an equivalent level of service to be performed down the road.

Part's/paint........+1 to Vash &mikez. Painting isn't really so bad, but to do a great job of prepping,.... SUCKS

Sounds fair to me. Hey I'm about 6 hours away. Can I come over with my 84? lol

Painting is 80% prep. Make sure you don't end up with a "motormeister" paint job in exchange for your "attention to detail" rebuild.
