Dips, what did you use? Hardibacker or Durock?

I think the hardi backer has the little grid pattern on it, right? That's the one I didn't use.

I used some thing I saw that was blue on one side and a yellowish cream on the other.
It had squarer corners, a bit thicker and a nice 90 degree edge. It wasn't as heavy either.

Neither Hardibacker or Durock ring a bell.

Ok I know the stuff. Yeah hardi has the gid on it. It also weighs about 400 lbs a sheet LOL That stuff is heavy!

I painted my first "Pollock" about 15 years ago. Sadly, I have no pictures of it. I shall paint another in the coming year and perhaps I'll post a picture of it.

Then I shall paint a "Rothko" and my life's work shall be complete.

I think your wife's just jealous. Yes, jealous that she can't do such a fantastic work of art! Maybe as a nice suprise for her; do a huge one painted directly onto the wall.

I think its great - anytime someone takes the time to create it is an expression of the soul!

That's what a lot of people think, that's it's easy to whip out a Pollock.
No immitator - myself included, and I have tried - will ever be able to paint with the depth of emotion Jackson experienced.
I was painting in a style very similar to this long before I knew who Jackson Pollock was. It was a past girlfriend that told me my work looked like his.
Still didn't bother to look him up. Years later I was told again that my work looked like Pollocks. I decided to look him up. I was shocked. After intense study of the artist It put a severe cramp in my painting endeavours. I tried to paint like him, but I was too conscious of him and thought people would belive I was trying to copy his style. I didn't want to fall into that.
It's been a few years since I painted like that. But I still have the best of the lot hanging in my house. Some were on canvases 8x10-feet or even longer. And I put a lot of feeling and emotion into them.
Still, they pale in comparison to Jackson's work. :(

Oh, by the way. You did a nice job on that. Forget what the pseudo-critics say.

I think it might be good right where it is but just a little lower. Maybe top edge even with the opening of the doorway on the right. It is a bit small for the space but, hey, it's a nice piece, good balance of visual density, pallet not in any way intrusive. A little bland but tasteful. There certainly is not much anger or deliberatenss to the painting. It looks like you enjoyed yourself.

That's why I made my own.
I used 2x2 boards form Lowe's. Cut them whatever size my muse told me to. Then used unprimed canvas as I was using commercial house paints or every variety. Saved quite a bit on the materials.

If you had come up with that 50 years ago you would be a genius - and now dead.

I had it lower at first but it didn't look right. Always start low when hanging a picture, when you move it up it covers the lower holes. No patching.;)
The same height as the slider would make the TV look to high. I kind of like the way it tapers down in height from the TV. On the far right wall you can see a painting that is above the door frame as well.
I took into consideration the halo from the recessed light. I centered this mesmerizing work of art and placed the top corners at the edge of the ring.

I know such a magnificent creation as this Dipso deserves it's own arena, but I can only work with what I have.:D

That's actually pretty similar to what Jackson used. After looking at the progression in his paintings through the 40's and into the 50's when he did his most familiar work, I have spent a lot of time pondering where it would have gone from there.

Every city I visit, I check to see if there is a Pollock on display. Now I suppose I'll have to visit Dipso.

One day at work years ago, my bud Dennis and I noticed how awesome the dropcloth looked that the painters out in the hall were using... just drips, no "slings." Looked like it had about 10-15 years of paint on it... lots of different colors.

We asked them if they would give it to us if we bought a new one the same size. They thought we were nuts, but said "OK."

We cut it in half. I think Dennis stretched his and hung it, but I never did... I should do that.
