Who do you use for cheap air line tickets
 

I used to travel weekly and always found Travelocity had the best deals but this was 8-10 years ago. What is the best site these days? How is Priceline?
I need to go to Denver in the spring...4 of us for a few days. We can travel any day of the week.

ive found the best prices on Expedia when i actually have to buy a real one.

Search on Expedia or Travelocity, book directly on the airline to avoid the fees.

I live in the same city with a Continental hub. I almost always end up flying continental non-stop as the cheapest (except for Southwest, blech!).

Do you other folks find that non-stop is cheaper or is it just me and my proximity to the Continental hub?

I guess to keep it on topic, I generally just go to Continental.com. Occasionally I check with a couple of the sites that you guys are talking about, and almost always end up cheapest through Continental. On the odd chance that someone else is cheaper, it's because my flight that's normally about 1:45 is a 6 hour ordeal with at least one stop. I'd rather pay a little more and fly the short route.

When I was booking my flight to DC this spring, I sorted by cheapest flight.

The cheapest flight was $99 a pop. It was 22 hours long and hit 15 airports. (I basically moved west from Bloomington to SF, then worked my way back east.)

The cheapest reasonable flight was $250 a pop and was BMG-->DTW-->IAD.

Considering I live by an airport that is not a hub, no. Direct flights are always more expensive for me.

dude, you could drive to DC from there in less time than that!

What about international flights? I've been thinking about what to do the summer after senior year.

look at the individual airlines' websites. you might be able to get a deal if you're flexible. otherwise, expedia or the like. don't book too far in advance (they figure you're completely leisure, and money isn't an issue), but also, don't book last minute (you've got "gotta-have-it" syndrome). 2-3 weeks in advance is a good amount of time.

I use kayak.com but they don't include Southwest, so search Southwest directly.

If you're in GA, you should search Delta. If you're going to Colorado, try Frontier or United. Always find out what airlines have hubs where you're going to/from and you'll have a better chance of finding something cheap.

I use both side step and kayak.

+2 on Kayak, just remember which airlines they do not cover and check those separately.

Bingo! I refuse to use the sites after they screwed me on some hotel reservations.

Frankly I rarely use them now and just go to SouthWest Airlines. Have rarely seen their pricing beaten and I simply refuse to pay for bags.

I've noticed that Travelocity and Expedia do not tell you their fees until very late in the booking process. They also have a habit of raising ticket prices during booking.

Living in a small town with a relatively big airport, I only have a few airlines to choose from, and Southwest is not one of them. We usually fly Airtran, but Delta and United will sometimes have the best route too. (See my example above on why I don't usually book the cheapest tickets.) Either way, ALL of the airlines that fly out of Bloomington charge for baggage.
