The Pacific
Anyone watching this? Same team that did Band of Brothers.....Dreamworks, Hanks etc?
Great series so far with good acting and action based on an unbelieveble storyy of the Marines landing on Guadacanal. On HBO now with the first three of the serires on Comcast. I've been watching it. So far, I have liked it.
I don't see it as an ultimate form of entertainment like say, The Sopranos, but I think of it more as an entertaining documentary. I think they do a good job, and I imagine the show depicts what it must have been like to live through it. |
I don't think any show could possibly depict what it was like.

Watched it with my dad. He was a 16 year old marine on Guadalcanal. He thought they captured it pretty well, except it was dirtier, more violent and more chaotic.
Pretty much everyone had malaria. No food, high fevers, jaundice with yellow eyes. He remembers sleeping in a shallow trench with mosquito netting draped over him. As the sun came up, he would notice that the netting was black with mosquitos. A lot more hand to hand combat than was depicted. And there was a lot more killing. 25,000 Japanese were killed on Guadalcanal. |
