they make a device that sprays a blast of air at them when they come close. it is supposed to work wonders. me, i had a very tenacious dog. i put a bunch of mouse traps in there. it doesnt hurt, but scared the crap out of her.

Same problem with our dachsaund (sp?). If there any food garbage in there and we leave the house, she makes a beeline for it. I've beaten her within an inch if her life and had a talk with her while she sat in the trash can, and she did it the next day. Grrrrr. Kids and wife say she's a dog and they do that stuff, so there's mixed messages. Grrrr.
Looking for a better, heavier trash can now. Before the dog gets thrown out with the trash.... |
Tabasco Sauce I've had a couple labs that got in to the trash a few times, I did this
Soak a piece of meat in Tabasco let them find it. It's worked for me. You may need to do it a couple times. Dogs, they will eat anything once. Some honorable mentions for Lab's that I have had: Bar of soap Light bulbs = expensive underwear pantyhose Half a netted roast Whole chicken Band aids other bloody dressings Gophers Steaks off the grill Kid's Birthday cake off the counter Few harvested waterfowl |

:D Seriously, fur thickness would seem like the type of hurdle that Invisible Fence would've figured out how to conquer a long time ago. Were you using their product/s, or something you found in Pet Smart, K-Mart, etc.? Not that there's anything wrong with that. (I do not own stock in Invisible Fence, nor does anyone I know as far as I know... just trying to help.) |
Light bubbs?
A few years ago, our dog swallowed part of one of those leather chew toys after he had gnawed off a piece. It had a sharp edge on it and caused his intestine to get inflamed and there was a blockage. X-rays, meds, pet emergency room, overnight stay, etc. ran between $700-800 IIRC, so there's an additional motivation for keeping dogs out of trash. |
i shaved her neck and everything. it did shock her, she just didn't care.
she would climb the fence and get out. i installed an electric fence. a cattle type electric fence. it was good for 7K acres of fencing, or some crazy thing. i tested it on myself and it nearly put me on my knees. my male newfoundland got it after two shocks. she tested it all day that first day. i counted 12 distinct yelps. then, three days later, i came home to a good 1/4 of the fencing pulled off because she tried to jump the fence and got tangled up in it. my golden doodle got shocked exactly once. he learns real quick. |
That dog is on meth.

We need pics of these doggies. What size goldendoodle do you have? Ours is BIG and countersurfs every chance he gets.

Seems that's motion activated. How does it tell the difference between the dog and I?
