Window Vista
Got a new/used computer for the office. it only needs to run a MS Access custom app and Firefox for address search and confirmation.
It's a Toshiba Satellite A135-S7404 laptop with 1.5Gig of RAM, Celeron 530. has Vista home. it runs the Access app pretty well. Firefox, and Chrome and IE before it, run slow, very slow, like something's wrong slow. just ran speedtest.net and the speeds are the same as my Mac. both are on the wireless Pre-N router. the card in the laptop is G however. is this a Vista thing? Should I bother putting Windows 7 on it?

Vista always worked well for me. You are not running enough ram for modern architecture though. 4 gigs is what windows likes these days.
My old vista boxes would idle at approx 1.2g of ram. 7 is said to run better than vista with less memory but I never tested it. Last edited by gr8fl4porsche; 04-12-2010 at 04:26 PM.. |

I'm pooter impaired, but I want to say that Vista needs at least 3GB RAM. That's what I have and it runs pretty good.

thanks, that's what I thought, good to have it confirmed. the crazy thing there's a Toshiba product sticker on the laptop saying it comes standard with 512MB and Vista. and the max RAM for this thing is 2GB. WTF?
I guess having the custom app work is better than nothing, at least it was free.
