60-100 MPH watermelon hits woman in the haid

Anybody here watch The Amazing Race? Any idea if this actually happened?

This guy says it's fake (profanity in audio):

I can't watch that hyperamped, quick cut, drama queen show, and I have no idea if this guy's analysis is credible based on all the "evidence" he cites... I just figure if someone saw it happen on the show, maybe it's not fake.

Or maybe I'm gullible and they faked it to make the show more sensational.

Wham! I would've expected her to have a severe concussion or massive brain hematoma (not sure if that's the correct terminology) if it really happened.

Freeze it at 27 secs, then watch closely. When they show the angle from behind the armour, you can see what appears to be pieces of watermelon on either side of her...

If that was a real watermelon, it would have killed her.

You engineers here can estimate the rebound speed in the unlikely event that the origainal watermelon got caught and returned.

A watermelon at speed hitting someone's head would yield the same result as a human head hitting concrete at a nearly the same speed. I'd be happy to calculate the actual energy involve in both scenarios but why bother when the outcome will be a dead subject.

As slodave pointed out in the third reply If you watch very carefully in the first shot 27 and 28 seconds in(where the camera is shooting back at her thru the uprights) you can see watermelon rhine bouncing along the ground. Also notice she didn't take it straight in the face, she turned her head enough to make it a glancing blow off the side of her head.
However I have serious doubts as to the claim of that melon traveling at 60-100mph? I bet that water melon isn't going half that speed. 25 tops. What do you think Dave?
I vote for REAL.

I'm with KevinP73--real but not at 60-100mph. If you stop the clip and move frame by frame during the shot from behind the armor, you can see the watermelon (or at least a large portion of it) right where her head would be. The next frame shows pieces off to the left and the girl behind her reacting. I think the watermelon may already have been broken as it flung back but still, I think it's real. (It may take a few tries to stop frame and get the shot but when you do, try zooming in--it sure looks like a watermelon to me.)

I'd have to vote for "real", baseball players get hit in the head all the time by 100 mph fastballs, and they continue to play. Sure they are wearing helmets, but a major league baseball is one hell of a lot harder than a watermelon.

That watermelon has a lot more mass.

Ask a baseball player to choose between getting hit in the head with a 100 MPH fastball and a 60-100 MPH watermelon.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't pick something that weighs about the same as his head and can slam his head back the way it looks like that melon slammed that woman's head.

even if that melon was only doing 25mph she's damn lucky she didn't get it head on. That woulda hurt . I'm surprised she didn't have a good case of whiplash by the way her head snapped back.
