I sure hope PETA come and rescues those poor coons.

WTF, trap them and excute them. There is no upside to having coons in the city, unless you are in the house repair business.

Dude have a heart.

Why not trap them and move them to somewhere far away from were people live.

Serve them up on the grill with Gates sauce, Their delicious.

Probably cleaner than some of the people who live in Chicago.

They are nothing but BIG dangerous rats. They can and do kill dogs and cats. Would you bother trapping and releasing rabbits? There is no shortage of coons. There never will be.

Well, at least they don't collect welfare.

Raccoons will only forage where they find things to eat, no food, they will go away. So it's a garbage issue.

At least in NYC (Manhattan) they have to cross the bridge to get there.

Garbage is defiantly a draw & a big part of the problem. But a coon will dig up and destroy a lawn looking for insects. They will break into a house and open the refrigerator and invite the clan over for a feast.

and if you havent trapped coons in a cage, well you just havent lived. very similar if not exactly like a badger or wolverine when caged. ALL TEETH AND ARSEHOLE!




but since most of you have NOT EVER dealt with them...............i can see all of you wearing a COON SKIN HAT waving your RUBBER TOMAHAWK and telling those of us who have to deal with them............."how cute they are."




a trapped coon in a cage and wanting to take him elsewhere is yer classic as you want to release him "HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS" type of injuries. as the coon will take his wittle paws and RIP THE HOLY HELL OUT OF YOU and then as you do finally release him and you have the puncture wounds and tears to prove it, you now have released a possible RABID one and therefore be subjected to the series of RABIES shots because the animal was released and they(hospital) can not test it.

I've never had to fight one, though, because I've never been tempted to poke one with a stick- okay, I HAVE been tempted to poke one with a stick but have never actually gone through with it.

No live ones, anyway.

heres a lil biologic info re: rabies. here in arizona we have the mongollon rim. this is a vertical escarpment 1000's of feet high. it crosses the state west to east roughly.


this is a natural barrier to most mammals. "most" being the key word. now rabies used to be pretty much above the "rim" in larger mammals. but as time has passed rabies has been passed down to smaller mammals who are very adept at climbing up and down the rim. think squirrels,skunks,chippymonks etc.


rabies has now been introduced into the lower elevations by these smaller critters to the larger critters. mtn lion bobby kitties raccoons etc. down in lower elevations.


the "plague" of the BUBONIC type used to also be found at higher elevations because of the rim being a natural barrier. but the same has occurred with the smaller climbing critters and now we HAVE PLAGUE and RABIES in non historical areas. in otherwords EVERYWHERE!



we have had a family of raccoons break into a cabin and the havoc they did was on par with bears. they aint cute.

I actually trapped a raccoon in Des Plaines (suburb of Chi) and let it go in Chicago. The place I let him go was near a cemetery and a forest preserve. I figured he'd live out a good life there.

When I trapped a raccoon it was completely docile. Nothing threatening at all. It did piss in the back of my truck though as I transported it. When I opened the cage to let it go, it just walked out casually. It actually stopped and stared at me longingly as if he were going to miss me.

A friend of mine in Pittsburgh has a run in with one in his back yard that turned out to be rabid. Nothing to F with.

Any feral animal can have rabies...

And any animal... when cornered can become dangerous... I'm more afraid of the stray dogs in my hood than the racoons... when I'm out walking at night the racoons run the other way... dogs, not so much. :eek:

Coons are just big cute rats. If they had naked tails no one would care if we killed them.

I've been trying to eradicate one tonight! It's been after the garbage can a few times and I've stood eye to eye (through the window) with it. I've locked down the lid, but that sucker still comes up to the house. I fear it may not live a long life.

They are roaming my hood for sure. I found foot prints in one o my sheds. Suckers even tried to get in through the shed'd eve vents by climbing up a rake I had holding the door shut. It's a new shed and I haven't put a lock on it.

They dig up my lawn in the fall and winter looking for grubs , etc. They really do a nasty bit on the lawn. It looks like someone with a reall bad swing was trying to tee off in the yard all night.

They are pests! No one needs them. I can't see how they are essential to the food change. PETA can kiss my arse.
