Mid-South floods - 2010

hope all of the fellow mid south Pelicans are staying out of high water. I had to be at work early this morning for an emergency and wow, wish I had not had to be... I work between Jackson and Memphis Tennessee. After I got there, a bridge on the main highway gave and I had to really dig around the backroads to make it back to I-40.... Only to find I-40 closed in our area. Had to take a LARGE detour, but finally made it home 2 hours later (normally a 45 minute drive). Wife's 4x4 Suburban handled flawlessly, despite the many areas of water. Hope I never have to make a drive like that again. If it had not been for a medical emergency at home (of course on a day like today) I would have just parked it at work.

Our weather station at work, just south of Nutbush, TN, registered over 13" of rain since midnight! The entire area of Madison County is a mess. And so are many adjoining counties. Forecast is for 6-7 inches more tonight. Yay...

I has been fairly tame here, sun shinning right now. Just lots of rain, I'm guessing about 8 inches so far. Tornado sirens went off about 4:30 this morning and about once an our till mid afternoon. But no high winds even.
Good luck through the evening.

Jay

Thirty minutes of light rain here. Just enough to wipe the pollen off the cars . . .

Nutbush? Really?

Nutbush? For real! Our plant was built in the middle of a cotton field 5 minutes from Nutbush.

And the tornado warnings start again.

On an "interesting" note. This Memphis Music festival is traditionally the first weekend in May, kicking off "Memphis in May". 3 day music festival on the river front, last nite Jeff Beck, B52's etc.

It ALWAYS rains/storms for this thing, its always a mud fest, I'm sure there are a bunch of crazies down there now.

The wife is trapped in Hoenwald Tn, 3 hours from Memphis, 2 hours southwest of Nashville.
She went to a retreat, out in the country, bridge is "out" getting off the property. I40 still closed in places and 64 and others. So I guess she's getting a day off from work Monday.
20 inches in 24 hours in the Nashville area.

Scott looks like you'll be getting all this shortly
Nutbush, yeah its the Tina Turner one

Parts of I-40 and I-65 around Nashville are still closed. We got buckets full of rain here in Murfreesboro (its still raining now), luckily we are south of the bad part and on higher ground. But I had to work yesterday and almost got stuck on I-24. There was a stretch where all four eastbound lanes were flooded. There was a semi in front of me that plowed the road for me and the work Explorer to get through. The highway patrol was trying to keep the sedans from trying so they wouldn't get stuck, the Toyata sedan behind me didn't get the memo, tried it, and got stuck.

I saw this afternoon, that parts of Vanderbilts Children's Hospital got flooded and patients had to be moved. The mayor of Nashville was on this afternoon cancelling government workers and suggesting private businesses do the same. My wife said she saw where they have been eight flood deaths already.

Craziness...we are praying that it is over soon.

Saw the Nashville flood on the news man thats bad. Not near that bad here.
Then wife and here friends finally left Hoenwald, heading down the Natchez trace to hit 72.
Apparently 64 is closed as well. According to Google maps this will be 4 1/2 hours back home, at night geeze!.

Well, come on out and we'll have lunch at the Nutbush restaurant (can't remember if they call themselves a cafe, deli or what). Food is decent country food. We can take your picture by the Tina Turner Highway sign.
