HTC HD2 - It's here!!!

Follow up to my other HD2 thread

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/539439-new-phone-htc-hd2.html#post5320203

Mys first impression is, man this thing is BIG! It is almost all screen and it is much bigger than my Treo Pro. It seemed more like one of my old PDAs, like my Palm Lifedrive or Palm TX. I dug out my Lifedrive (look at the dust!) for some comparisons.

Some gratuitous pictures:

(Lifedrive Left, HTC HD2 middle and Treo Pro right)

Here is the HD2 vs. the iPhone

But it is thin, thinner than the iPhone

They are using the Opera browser as standard. The swipe and pinch stuff is just like the iPhone. I'm still getting used to things, but it seems pretty sweet and fast so far.

Setup of my e-mail address was pretty straight forward, but then I've used WM6 before. And the touch typing, while I don't like it as much as a physical keyboard, works just fine.

More as I work with it.

Looks like I'm getting one of these in a trade tomorrow. Overall, it looks like an impressive phone. I'll probably just get a prepaid sim for limited use and use it on wifi predominantly. How's the whole blockbuster thing working for ya?

There are a couple of issues, but there are fixes for them.

Mine had some of the freezing issues, but I installed a program calle LeoCpuSpeed, where I locked down the Cpuspeed to 998 MHz.

The update to the ROM makes the unit a little less sensative to the Touch. There is a CAB file you can run which will reset the sensetivity.

In general, the phone is excellent. And here I'm getting 3Mbps download speeds. They are supposed to be activating the 4.5g upgrade here in Houston, which will put broadband speeds, 20-20 Mbps, on the phone. The phone fully supports this, it is just a change at the towers.

My biggest issue? Having to fix many of my video files, since I optimized them for a 320x320 screen.
