ok to throw my dog's feces in the neighbor's trash?

With all the litting threads I thought I would ask.

So I'm on a walk with the dog and it's trash day. I pick up the poop (in a bag). Is it OK to put in the neighbor's (anyone on the street) can if I'm closer to their house? Does it matter if the trash truck has already picked up for the day?

Discuss.

OK if trash truck is still coming.

Not OK if trash truck has already come.

Let it be written, let it be done.

Take it home and put in your trash can. Your dog... your poop... your responsibility.

And if your dog poops again before you get home, you're gonna need the bag again anyway.

I see no problem with dropping off the droppings in a neighbor's trashcan that's sitting at the curb. It's a bit silly to be carrying around dog poop any longer than you have to. I'd far rather have people pick up after their dogs and deposit the stuff in a trashcan than to just leave it laying on the ground. Maybe it'll be incentive for people to bring in their trashcans after trash day, as opposed to leaving them by the curb all week long.

Full disclosure: I don't have dogs, but live close to an apt complex where a lot of people do.

Will your neighbor's get upset if you do this? Maybe go around and ask them if it's ok before doing it.

Personally, I'd really rather you didn't put your dog's **** in my trash can.

Thank you in advance.

Would you do it if the homeowner was right there watching? If the answer is "no", then you shouldn't.

No pickup, then maybe yes. If they have dogs I would say they understand.

I have to respond. I can see it both ways. Sometimes I'm in a neighborhood on trash day and all the "mechanical" receptacles (lifted by the truck arm) are at the curb. It's mid morning and the truck is eminent. I have a few bags of construction debris and the customer's can is full.

So, I begin the distribution to other cans making sure I never place enough in them to keep the lid from fully closing. What would be my rationale?

Well, on the "mechanical" receptacle it says "Property of the City of Long Beach." So, I figure the city owns it and it's on city property, i.e., city streets. Fair game.

I know that's a stretch, but I could give a sh less. In life most people don't challenge much of what I do because I'm really sort of a volatile ass looking person to begin with.

OTOH, I left my can in the alley overnight and then some a few times. It was recently emptied. Along comes some dichweed and puts his entire Mexican take out left overs in the can to ferment for the next 5 days. I've even had the USPS letter carrier do this.

And then there's the ubiquitous alley dog walker. They will stop and put their dog's (dogs') business in my (MY??) can. If I'm in the back I can hear this. More than one has dived back in to retrieve their "belongings."

I guess you know me by now. I'll get up in anyone's face anytime. I should be dead by now.

My favorite expression is, "Call the cops, I'll wait right here."

What's the big deal? Unless you plan on opening the lid to your can and sniffing...

Nice to live in a rural area. I'm at the top of the food chain, and I don't like the idea of picking up another specie's feces.

My daughter's dog has never even left a pile in our yard- Plenty of wooded/brushy area in which to take care of business.

Interesting range of opinions and I was just curious what people thought This is actually the model I follow:

I would find it nasty to have rolled my "empty" can back to the house and find a bag of poop in there stinking it up till the next time the truck comes, so I guess that's why I don't do it. That and I don't want the neighbors giving me the evil eye if that caught me.

On another note... I have two big cans and usually only need to put one out. The other is for lawn clippings and I don't always need to fill it. My wife will put the poop in lawn clipping can and I'll open that thing a week and half later when I bag the grass. Drives me nuts.
