I bought a Webber 210 from HD this spring, 2 burners with cast iron cooking grates. Heats to 600 degrees in about 10minutes and I just started smoking with it. Indirect heat front burner on the lowest setting holds 250 degrees all day long in 90 plus weather.

A great all around grill.

my dads Weber Kettle GRILL(bbq is a cooking technique) is over 20yrs old now maybe pushing 30yrs and still works as advertized.

i am more a of a gas grill kind of guy but when my gas char-broil finally kicks the dust, i will possibly make the converstion to the old technology.
but i dont like that they have changed the wooden handles to plastic on the new Webers

I saw a Weber hybrid. Gas to fire up the charcoal or briquets and then shut the burner down and cook w/o gas byproducts. Is this new?

While hybrids are all the rage in cars these days, there is a lesser known hybrid also growing in popularity. The Weber Performer Grill is a charcoal grill on steroids. It uses a gas assist (a mini disposable propane can) to light the coals fast, giving you the convenience of a gas grill with the taste of charcoal. Instead of using a charcoal chimney, you simply pile the coals in the middle, turn on the gas for about five minutes and then turn the gas off once the coals get going. It's really the best of both worlds and saves you from having to use lighter fluid and also lights the charcoal faster.

Charcoal Grills - Are Backyard Barbecues Bad for Your Health?

That black stuff you see when you do a cajun blackened whatever

Carcinogen, that is what makes it good.

So is it the burned meat that is bad or the gasses/whatever that form when fat is vaporized? or both?

Not really new. It adds a burner at the bottom of the kettle to help you start the charcoal. Have seen them out for several years at least but man are they pricey!

Personally have found chimney starters to be fool-proof and work perfectly every time.

The ash (sand if you're using briquettes!) collection system at the bottom of that kettle (also on the gold kettle model) is fantastic btw.

"Charcoal briquettes do have the benefit of being made partly from sawdust (a good use of waste wood), but popular brands may also contain coal dust, starch, sodium nitrate, limestone and borax."

The Weber performer has been around for 20 years. That's how old mine is.
Back then, they came with a stainless steel surface.

not to belittle the article but EVERYTHING causes health issues. eating cooked meat can kill you. eating uncooked meat can kill you. not eating meat can kill you. not drinking enough water can kill you. drinking too much water can kill you. breathing outside air can kill u. breathing in-house air can kill u.

our society's become "what commonplace thing can we make dangerous".

Ahh yes, the leading cause of death is life.

JJ 911SC 07-01-2010 02:13 PM

Yeah, sooner or late something will kill you...

I agree, I was just comparing byproduct of gas vs charcoal...

Similar to Steve finding, the main cause of death is basically birth itself :D:D:D
