Heard some of the brain trust talk these BBQ's up, saw one at Homo depot and the salesperson didn't know any thing about them and neither do I. Is it a smoker?does it use charcoal or gas heat. do they have a rottissere and what about regular grilling, steaks and burgers are they OK for that?
Thanks |

without knowing about the specific model, I can say that generally speaking, you get what you pay for. I bought a "Vermont Castings" grill from Home Depot several years back. While it was certainly cheaper than other retailers, there was a reason for it. Home Depot gets the manufacturer to modify the design (replacing stainless steel with powder coat) in order to make a certain price point. I'm not complaining, just pointing out something to look out for.

Think they make both gas and charcoal......If you google: "weber BBQ", you will see both.......I have the charcoal kind at my cabin.......Works great, but usually use the gas one as it's much faster.........

Which Weber? There are a bunch.
They make a bunch of Gas grills. I have one, and I like it. I don't grill that much, but I grew up grilling. I think we used to grill 5 days a week at least during the summer. ![]() They are best known for their kettle grills (charcoal) ![]() They also make a smoker or two.

I have a Weber kettle charcoal grill and a Weber Smoky Mountain smoker. Both are great. I prefer the taste of charcoal grilled over gas. Plus, my labrador seems to have a taste for those soft little hoses that lead from the propane tank to the grill...

The Weber Charcoal Kettle is about the best that there is for hot and fast Grilling, steaks, burgers chicken and fish...Easy to use and easy to clean. U can even get a Rotissery set up for it for about $100 and it does well there to. It really is not a smoker for traditional BBQ. For $89 it can't be beat.
I have had mine for close to 30 years...

I bought a $600 natural gas Weber grill last year. It is rock solid & much better than the order brands imho. Even the gas hookup guy said that they were the best. 'One click' grills he called them.

I bought a gas weber in 2000. It sits right next to my salt water swimming pool, so it has rusted a bit. Over the years I have called Weber and they have sent me EVERY part for free that i needed. (Diaphragm, thermometer, hose thingee, etc). If they weren't sure what it needed they sent it all.
I will ALWAYS own a Weber and a Big Green Egg. Awesome products, great support. My father in law has gone through 4 grills in this time. I grill about 2 days a week on average.

my wife's old company was cleaning out the office closet. in back was an old, but perfect weber kettle. 22.5" that they used once for some office tailgater..
they gave it to us! i had to replace the cooking grate awhile back because of my neglect. last week i spent $25, changing out those 3 fingers at the bottom that whisk out the ash, and the charcoal grate. at the same time, i used a brass brush and scrubed the inside. honestly the "chassis" is solid. i bet i can get 20 years from this thing! the legs will probably buckle one day..that dish that holds the ash will crush..but all in all, i'm about $30 bucks from a total rebuild. (wood handles are getting really weathered). i am shopping for a weber gas grill. probably buy one of the $800 genesis things. i love the side burner for outside deep frying. that weber kettle will be right at it's side! i love the kettle.

I bought the Weber BBQ because it's not disposable for the most part. You can repair them unlike a lot of the cheaper models that you have to replace the whole unit if something goes bad. Don't waste money on cheap vinyl covers, mine disintegrated within 6 months in Wa sun. My wife bought me the proper Weber cover last Winter.

Couple months ago the wife made the decision to buy a Weber gas burner grill like the top one pictured in masraum's post #4. She did a little research (including talking to a friend's obsessive-compulsive type dad who had also recently purchased a grill, so take that for what it's worth) and had heard that the Webers were pretty durable. We've been really pleased with it so far. Flipping through a recent issue of This Old House, they profiled grills and also recommended the same Weber (Genesis 310).

Tec.
Period. I only bought the second one because I wanted the newer style. The first one, then fifteen years old, was still working great when I gave it to a friend. TEC Infrared Grills, Changing The Way America Grills. Patio, Backyard and Outdoor Grilling at its Best. you get what you pay for. |

My honest impression of weber gas grills is that they are overpriced. I believe SS is worth paying for and you should look for more burners but i wouldn't pay a premium for the weber name. Understand that we all know the Weber name due to the dumb luck of a factory worker, not some magical mastery of grilling that renders Weber products head and shoulders above the rest. IOW nothing that makes the Weber kettle great has anything to do with their gas grills.
Picked up a Weber kettle this year however and haven't used my gas grill since. Key is chimney starter.

I have a gas Weber grill - finally got one after getting sick and tired of replacing my grill every 3-5 years.
It works well, and cleans up well too - even after the grease fire that happened due to our negelct. (Clean out the grease catch!) . We cleaned everything out, and after putting everything back together, it started up no problem.
