2011 E550 Coupe?
Thinking about leasing one. Came to the realization that buying high-end cars outright is pretty silly. Lot's of stuff I want to drive, better use for capital.
Anyone have one? Any thoughts? I'm not partial to the 3.5l engine. Thanks! |
???
I thought the 3.5 engine in my E350 was great. It was one of the high points of the car. Given the cars weight, it offered plenty of smooth power. Agree about leasing. If you going to get new vehicles, and you like to change cars, buying doesn't make sense. |
Nothing wrong with the v6, I'm just looking for a V8. They don't make the E63 AMG in a coupe unfortunately.
HardDrive - your thread on buying the "S" triggered the thoughts of dumping my "S" and getting a Benz. Since we're both in the same town maybe we should have traded? :) |
I don't think you want my old car. Trust me.
I enjoyed my E series, but a few components were just not fully baked. My understanding is that the 08 model year saw improvements, and I would hope that continued with the introduction of the new model. Why get rid of the 997? Just itching for a new car? I seem to make it about 2 years with cars before I get the shopping bug. |

I just like new cars for my DD, and since I'm a car guy, I want try stuff out. I've also shifted my philosophy about "ownership". I'd rather rent big ticket disposable/depreciating things. Thought the 997S was a keeper. Some variant of it may yet be. I'll have to console myself with the other Porsche in the garage I guess. ;) |
E-class thinks for you, so you don't have to...
can you stand going backwards from a sports car to driving a bank vault?? |

After three years if it becomes stale, dump it, and get another new Porsche. This isn't too rational exactly, just guy and car stuff. Besides, compared to my '58, my 997S does all the thinking for you. :) |
Make sure you get the Sport model. I had the standard model. The suspension was competent, but it was totally geared towards luxury. Lots of float.
RWebb, I disagree with you. I think Mercedes has actually done a great job of buffering passengers without making it too quiet. There was just enough mechanical noise to remind you that you were driving. I must say, I rather enjoy the snarl behind me in my new car:) |
not sure what you are referring to(?)
MB's ads taut all the techno-gadgets that wake you up when you should be driving - radar, yada yada MS has always been known for bank vault solidity (and maybe a lot of caster) - they just don't corner in a fun way but... it is a fine car |
