Subaru Forum?

Hi -

I use PP as the ultimate forum for my P-Car, but I need to replace the clutch in my '99 Subaru Legacy Outback. Are there any similar forums out there similar to PP, but for Subaru?

Thanks,
Tom

N.A.S.I.O.C = North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club

There is a Legacy forum. I don't know how active it is.

IF you get in a jam, I would be happy to answer any questions you have, I have done a butload of these. Not to bad of a job, pretty straightforward, the hardest part you will have is separating the motor from the trans, after they are unbolted. They always seem to gald themselves to the dowel pins, and are a little tough to get separated .
The drive axles are pinned with roll pins to the output shafts of the transmission, and separating the lower ball joint to remove the axles is always a pia. The pinch bolt likes to break off, but if you go the other way, and take the joint out of the knuckle, you will most certianly tear the dust boot, and make the joint go bad quicker.
Getting the throwout fork shaft out may slip you up a little bit too.
Good luck !

Thanks so much for the help guys. I checked out nasioc.com and joined so I could search and post. I'll do some more exploring there when I have a few minutes to spare and snoop around for info.

Fast Fred - thanks for the help offer. I have dropped my P-car engine/trans a lot and have a scissor lift in my garage. My Subaru seems to be needing a new clutch and since funds are tight at the moment, I'm trying to decide if it's a job I can do myself, or if I should just pay someone else to do it - not decided yet.

Hopefully I'll pick up a few jobs at work and the decision to pay someone else will be easier!

Thanks,
Tom

It is not too difficult to do. I did one on the OB I used to own a few years ago (as well as a headgasket job). As Fred said, the worst part was separating the motor from the trans.

I'm on there, as my DD is an '08 LGT. Lots of kids (not as bad as NASIOC), but enough information to make it worthwhile.
