2 Killed in robbery attempt at Pizza Hut

By Ron Lee - bio l email

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police say a restaurant employee shot and killed two armed robbery suspects after they allegedly beat a fellow employee during a robbery attempt late Monday night.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the Pizza Hut located at 5422 East Independence Boulevard.

Two would-be robbery suspects were found dead on the restaurant floor after police said an employee washing dishes pulled out his own gun and fired at them.

Two Pizza Hut employees were in the back of the business cleaning up for the night when three suspects armed with weapons entered through the front door. They forced the two employees into the cooler and allegedly beat one of the employees.

Police say that's when the other employee fired his personal weapon at the suspects.

Two of the robbery suspects were shot and killed. The third suspect managed to get away.

The CMPD said two handguns were recovered from the suspects who died inside the restaurant.

Police have not said if any charges will be filed against the employee who shot the two suspects. The search continues for the third suspect who ran away.

If you know anything about this incident or the third suspect, call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

He should get a medal, but you are probably right. Fired & sued. If he is a diswasher at a pizza joint he will not have much to loose in the suit. Of course they will go after Pizza Hut.

tough one. the robbers needed to be shot, so hats off for that.

However, if I was running a restaurant and found out an employee was coming to work armed, theat would be their last day.

Looks like the dishwasher felt the need, he maybe the one that saved the lives of the employees, maybe this had happened before, maybe the dishwasher felt the need for the gun when he got off and walked home. Lots of maybes here.

So you are willing to guarantee your employees safety not only while they are on your premises/work site, but also to/from home/work?

Some of my employees pack.

I do not have an issue with it until it becomes a problem.
I do have a sign at my business which states no conceal carry on site.

I think there should be a shoot to kill order for anyone trying to mug or steal, beat, rape and if you come in my house not invited you are not here to sell girl scout cookies. Good for the dish washer.
It would give the muggers something to think about before trying something stupid.
The police should stick to the saying on the sides or there cars. Where hear to protect and serve. Not protect me from my self and serve me a ticket for just about any reason they can dream up to fill the city's coffers.
Pick up the body's and move on I say.

If that happened in California the dishwasher would probably be facing a long prison term for violating the civil rights of the robbers.
In Texas they'd have a parade in his honor.

I'm in the wrong state.

Good for him...

But I'm suspicious as to why a dishwasher was packing as well...

Only way I'd pack at work is if my boss was 100% ok with it...

Why? He did not feel safe and defended the owners property and the employees at the same time.

He should be given a medal and reward.

i worked at a computer store. the owner conceal carried. there were weapons in the safe. occasionally, i had a handgun in plain sight while working on computers in the back. we often had $10K or more in cash in the store. this was the heyday of mom and pop computer stores, mid to late 90's. the domino's pizza next store was robbed at gunpoint. we were left alone. they got MAYBE $100 robbing the pizza store and were caught, later, with half a dozen stolen firearms and a sawed off shotgun. a list of felonies as long as your arm. how can that possibly be worth it.

He'll probably be fired, even if he was in Texas.

Of course in Texas, he'd have a job in a gun store the next day and probably a benefit held in his honor for any legal costs

Where you work is one of the places where it should be mandatory. You need to protect the inventory.

I tell my boss that shoplifting in the rest of the store would go way down if we were allowed to open carry...
