$300 a share?!?

Apple shares nearing $300 mark - MarketWatch

Amazing. Funny, when it hit $100 I thought there's no way it would go much higher.

Sure glad I bought a bunch of various stocks 15 years ago and just sat on them. Wish I had done Microsoft 25 years ago but did not. Learned my lesson but looked ahead.

My parents bought some Apple, Sun, and so forth in the 80's. Unfortunately, that helped send me through college; otherwise, I might be a rich dude right now...

I did buy a little bit of Apple in the low 100's and hang onto it though. Normally I don't have the stomach or the time to deal with single stocks, but it's an interesting company to watch.

I got lucky a month ago, and dumped all my VMW, and bought AAPL with the proceeds @ $243. VMW is down nearly 15% and AAPL is up over 20%. I think it's about time to take the profit on AAPL.

Apple has fantastic products and a loyal customer base. I'm a recent convert myself. Their stuff is exceptionally well thought-out and they clearly place an emphasis on design as well as functionality, which is a rare thing these days. I see a bright future for them for at least several more years, although eventually they will face mounting pressure to produce something new rather than just variations on the same old electronic gizmos. They've got some very bright people working for them and I don't doubt they'll hit a few more home runs before "getting old". I wonder how long until the first thought-controlled computer comes out... :)

Believe it or not, I think this one is a "buy".

$301.43 @ 10:30, fine by me.

I've heard some analysts say it could go to $370, why not? Should get a bump next year with Verizon getting the phone as well. I would also expect a bump around the holidays if the market continues to move.

Of course it could also be $250 by January if the political scene doesn't improve or if we have another TA.

From Marketwatch.......

"According to data compiled by Thomson Reuters, 49 analysts cover Apple, with 46 of them holding a price target of $300 or higher on the stock. Three of the analysts have a price target of at least $400 a share, with the highest target price being $430.

On Tuesday, Ben Reitzes, of Barclays Capital, raised his price target on Apple to $385 a share from $340, citing the potential for the gains from Apple’s FaceTime technology. FaceTime allows users of the iPhone 4 and the newest model of the iPod touch to make video calls with each other over Wi-Fi networks. Read about why some analysts see more gains coming for Apple’s stock."

Not that the iPhone is the end all - be all for Apple, but I've read several reports stating that the Droid is now outselling the iPhone. I wonder what impact that will have on Apple's stock value.

Great Customer Service

The less than 4 months old wife iPad stop charging Monday night.

Took it in the Apple Store this morning, they try to charge it...

Walk out with a new one :):):)

Apple will just pull another rabbit out of the hat, I don't think it will impact them at all. Competition is good, it just spurs creativity.

What he said.

Oct 20 there will be another "special event" focused on OS X. Sneak peak at 10.7 and who knows what else.

Also the iPad is proving to be a massive success. iOS and Facetime could be the "killer app" in the short-term.

Wal-Mart to start selling iPads

Porsche-O-Phile 10-13-2010 09:51 AM

Facetime is simply amazing. I remember "video phones" being sci-fi when I was a kid, envisioned to be a little unit (combination phone w/ little display screen) sitting on your desk. Now it's in the palm of your hand and works great (when AT&T doesn't drop the call that is).

The selection of apps for iPad and iPhone is staggering. I just downloaded AutoCAD WS to edit .dwg files on my phone. That blows me away too. Yes, it's cumbersome (a phone isn't really intended to be a drafting station) but for minor edits and markups? Unreal.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Remotely controlling my desktop PC? Yep, can do that too.

I think they have so much cash reserves they are worth even more than $300 a share if you dismantle the company ! Nevermind the products they put out ! It's nice but I don't own enough for this to really affect me. I seem to make just enough $$ on apple to buy more apple products "free". It's not so bad, Apple bought me a Mac Pro a few years ago and an Ipad this year ;-)

enzo1 10-13-2010 11:15 AM

I'm not saying anything..... I might Jinx it, LOL

Apple is a solid company, but I don't feel comfortable investing my money into a cult. Much of the demand is media generated. No hype = less ales.

I just made 70% gain in the past 10 days on 2 Chinese stocks. Sold with my profit because greed is the quickest way to the poor house!

No, but I'm in the solar market too and loving those gains as well!

Oil and coal. NEP & PUDA. Very solid financials on both - stocks will probably continue to rise. Assuming they tell the truth.

How can you say in one breath that it's a solid company and then say it's a cult.

Why can I not? They make lots of money off worship and blind loyalty. They do evil through censorship, but nobody cares.
