Two types of "spoons".....

There's Colts and then there is everything else!

The Colts...........

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1292802887.jpg

The Colts range from .22 rimfire to .357 mag. Some are target guns, some are carry guns. They are all 35 years of age or (much) older.

The Others.........

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1292802975.jpg

Much more diverse, again ranging from .22 rimfire thru 9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, .44 mag, to .45 ACP. With the exception of the Ruger .22 the rest are for "serious social encounters". Again, other than the Ruger which is about 50 this year, these are all fairly new.

You never know when you might need a good "spoon" or two!

I'd imagine any crook breaking into your place would get a "nice" surprise ;)

very nice hammerless colt. 03 .32 or 08 .380?

fred cook 12-19-2010 04:56 PM

Little Colt Auto

That is a 1908 .380. It was made in 1930 making it 80 years old! It has about 90% finish and the original mag. I picked that one up at an auction on Saturday for a quite reasonable price!! Thanks for noticing!

Very nice. I have 3 colts that I swap around as carries. An 03, an 08 and a 1911.

Suprised Crook....

I also have two large dogs, one is about 100 lbs and the other is right at 135. And yes, if someone were to break into my house I want it to be the worst day of their life!

targa911S 12-19-2010 05:07 PM

HardDrive 12-19-2010 05:21 PM

Now see, its post like this that make me go to the gun store and buy stuff I don't really need.

fred cook 12-19-2010 05:26 PM

What's reasonable?

Targa911S you have PM.

targa911S 12-19-2010 05:31 PM

got it......was I right about your dogs?

fred cook 12-19-2010 05:54 PM

The Dogs

The dogs are Great Pyrenees. The smaller one is about 12 years old and the larger one just turned one! They both can bite thru a beef rib bone without much trouble! They are trained to "patrol" their yard and even if I leave a gate open, they won't go out unless invited. Great dogs!

akbash....

I see that you like ivory grips also. Someday I hope to have a bullseye Woodsman to add to the collection. There is an interesting story about the Woodsman Match Target in the first picture. The original owner was a banker in Rome, Georgia right after WWII. When I bought the MT, it came with a lot of provenence info. He bought the gun in 1949 and had it shipped to Rome via Railway Express. After receiving the Woodsman, he ordered a set of target grips from Lew Sanderson (the set on the MT). I have a postcard that Sanderson sent to the PO saying that the grips would be ready in a few days. If I remember correctly it was post marked sometime in 1950 or 51. He also wrote letters to General Hatcher and Townsend Wheeler asking about target shooting techniques. This guy was a real pack rat and kept carbon copies of his letter to the above mentioned gun gurus as well as the replies. The letter back from General Hatcher actually came from his assistant as the General was out of the country at the time. The letter that came back from Wheeler was written on Sport Afield (I think) letter head and was written by Mr. Wheeler. When the banker passed away, his grandson inherited the Woodsman. He turned around and listed it on Gunbroker almost immediately. I was fortunate to be able to win the bid and add it to my collection. I will never understand why the guy was willing to sell his grandfather's pistol! Anyway, I pretty much know the history of the MT from day one!

If I could find a set of grips for the woodsman, they would cost about what the gun is worth without them. I doubt it will ever happen. Yes I'm a sucker for ivory. It adds so much class to any firearm.

Check out Sam Liskers site Coltautos.com

Nice bunch of ponies you have there.

Woodsman Bullseye Grips

I saw an ad somewhere recently where a company is making reproduction elephant ear walnut grips for your pistol. If I can find the ad again I will pass the info along to you. I think the repro grips were pretty reasonable and even come with the Colt emblems.

You've got a bunch of old design and new design, but no middle ground....
While a Colt 1911 is one of my favorite guns of all time, I like this little piece of middle ground just as much

Of course, I love this piece of old school as well
