Dodge Viper: Exotic?

Easy question: Do you consider the Dodge Viper an exotic car?

Discuss.

it's the 928 of dodges.

URY914 01-08-2011 10:01 AM

Is a Vette one too?

Oh Haha 01-08-2011 10:01 AM

No, I consider it a hot rod. Yes, it can compete and even beat Ferrari, Lambo, and other high end sports cars but it is more "brute".

I would put the Corvette in the same class as the Viper. This is not a dig on the cars but just my opinion.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-08-2011 10:06 AM

It's not nearly as exotic as a Bullit Rustang.

Which in turn is not nearly as exotic as a 928.

Both of which are slightly more exotic than Ferrari 250 GTOs.

maxnine11 01-08-2011 10:12 AM

It's no Mustang !!

peppy 01-08-2011 10:14 AM

Badass....YES

Exotic.....NO

Jrboulder 01-08-2011 10:26 AM

I thought they had a truck engine.

HardDrive 01-08-2011 10:32 AM

Huh. Oddly, I DO consider Vipers exotic. They are somewhat rare, very unique recognizable design, V-10 engine, massive performance. I vote exotic.

which is a huge compliment to Dodge.

And OT the Viper screams "LOOK AT ME I WON THE LOTTERY AND GREW UP IN TRAILER!!!"

A930Rocket 01-08-2011 10:35 AM

I had not considered them exotic, but above the Corvette.

Dantilla 01-08-2011 10:39 AM

Exotic is not a black-or-white issue. All shades of grey here.

People usually notice when a Viper drives by, car guys stop what they're doing and watch.

Just due to how few of them you see, I would call it a "Semi-exotic".

How's that for a non-answer?

Basic archetecture of the Viper's engine is the Dodge truck's V-10, but no truck has an aluminum engine! I wouldn't consider that a negative. Chevy small blocks have powered thousands of pick-ups. Does that mean the Corvette is powered by a truck engine?

Having driven a few Vipers, all I have to say, they are a lot of fun to drive, and unlike the current crop of Vetts & Porsches, they don't drive themselves, i.e. you still pay for mistakes, kinda like early 930s...

BTW, the 924 Porsche had an Audi TRUCK engine & VW Super Beetle (as did the rest of the series) based front Susp...

I use to joke that my old 3100 had a Vette engine since it had a 1953 235 in it.............

There's only one exotic in this picture. Can you find it?

I don't see any 928s.

Back to the OP's question: Count me in the minority, then. Exotic: yes.

Yeah, I couldn't tell if that silver thing behind the pedestrian on the back left is one. But it's not black, which is a minus.

Rear suspension too. All of the 944S parts fit perfectly under my Beetle.

American made, It can`t be an exotic, Americans can not build an EXOTIC CAR, do you not know that?

azasadny 01-08-2011 11:21 AM

When I think "exotic", I think of cars that are very limited in number, like less than 500 made or so...
