McLean, Northern Virginia

Gonna be renting a house for a few days in McLean (Green neighborhood?) during a trip, any negatives here?

We'll be going to places within the Beltway during the weekend. Is McLean too far out or too inconvenient?

TIA

TIA,

I work in DC three days a week and rent an apartment in McLean near the Chain Bridge.

Traffic during the weekend should be no problem this time of year. Depending on where you are, either the George Washington Pkwy or RT 66 will have you in DC in a jiffy.

McLean has a small downtown area with reasonable restaurants. It is also very easy to get to Bethesda during the week if you want variety...take RT 123 to Chain Bridge, right on Canal, left on Arizona, right or left on MacCarthur Blvd. Nice places to eat either direction.

Rosslyn is also very close, down GWP or 66.

You are coming to DC at a good time...there will be no crowds at the monuments, etc. Dress warm and have fun!

Paul,

Thanks for the post. I'll actually be making the trip in April but wanted to reserve the place now. Hopefully the tourists will still be hibernating early April. Sounds like McLean should work out.

Thanks!

The residential part of McClean is a very nice area. The part of it that is Tysons Corner is a concrete jungle of gridlock and soul-crushing traffic. As you know, there is a very strong Porsche crowd in that area. Drop in on Dorkiphus and let the crew know you'll be in town.

McLean will be fine. Plenty of side roads and what not to get around. You'll be fine. Holler when you're here....lots of Porsche life!

We'll be there for a long weekend. We have a wedding but the wife wants do museums with the kids and grand parents, but I'm going to insist I get a beer night out of the deal. Will let the Dorkis know as we get closer. Thanks for the input guys.

I just reread your original post. How are you renting a house for a couple of days?

Steve,

VRBO.com

It'll be cheaper and easier for us with a baby and toddler, 3 older kids and the grand parents. We do these vacation rental by owners when we travel. I hate hotels when the family is along.

I graduated from McLean High School, and my parents still live in the area.

When you are there, check out the new Air and Space Museum out at Dulles. I think it was featured in the Transformers 2 movie, there is an SR71 there....

Great! Thanks, Bill. We will definitely try to fit that in.
