Water transfer pumps
I have a horizontal shaft 5hp Briggs engine. It has a smooth shaft with pulley and a key. I'd like to find a water pump head that can move about 150 GPM for less than 100 bucks if possible. The cheaper the better. I dunno, I'm just starting to think about it and I've found an inexpensive one at the TSC for ~200 so if it's not worth dealing with it so be it... Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

Look for a pacer pump. I don't think you'll find new for $100. Here's a new one on ebay for $160.

What kind of "head" (lift do you anticipate. Also what is the rise from the water source to the pump. What pipe diameter, inlet and discharge? What discharge pressure do you want? You need all that info before you talk to a pump guy.

Art - Thanks for the contact I will for sure give him a call
The Honda/pacer combo is tempting but I have an engine so if I can get a pump to make it work I'll try that first. Here is what we are dealing with. We are trying to flood the ice surface of a pond to make it smoother to skate on. We currently have a 4700gph submersible pump that just takes to long. So by getting a better pump it should save us some time. Water to the pump will be less that two feet and we are running 50ft of 1.5" hose. So a 1.5" in/out should be fine. Not sure about the pressure but would be nice to spray it a short distance instead of it just running out.

Go to this link and you will see what i mean. http://web.extension.illinois.edu/springfieldcenter/downloads/9011.pdf If I were you I would borrow a two inch discharge pipe or hose and see if there is a marked improvement in the discharge. Also, PVC is FAR better than any hose from a friction loss perspective.

I think you are right. I know we got a hold of a bigger hose but he has still been using the garden hose adapter with a garden hose for some reason. Before anything else we'll try the larger hose and see how that goes.

I use a 1 1/4" hose on my sump pump and to pump water off the pool cover. I bought a $125 pump from Lowe's, I believe the pump is made in Italy.

The link I posted is just for the pump that you can couple to your engine.

Okay, we tried the larger hose tonight and WOW what a difference. Of course it was only 25' and a flat one. So any ideas on a 1.5" hose that isn't so 'kinkable'. It's gotta be flexible and closer to 50ft, 75ft would be better... This pond is quite large.
