Barrett Jackson

Has anyone been watching this weekend? I've watched a little and boy is the money back. The last couple of years the cars have really struggled but it seems (to me anyway) that the bids are climbing fast. While not a fan of BJ or most of their overhyped iron I like what it say's about the economy in general

I do enjoy watching for a little while. a bit too much hype. Plus it makes me cringe to see the prices. After seeing prices like that every guy with an interesting car thinks he is sitting on a gold mine. There goes any chance of a good deal!

Quite of few of the two-seater Thunderbirds sold in the last two days. Some seemed reasonably priced, others not so much. The '49 Packard woodie was very nice.

Best,
Tom

Car auctions used to be a place where you'd go to try and get a deal.

Now thanks to Barret Jackson and television, they are a place where very stupid, very wealthy people go to waste their money.

I used to enjoy watching BJ, now not so much, mainly for the reasons stated above, but for me the most ridiculous part was watching "the BJ Golden Boys" Hendricks and Pratt sit there like a couple pompus kings, sorry, just a gross display of asset allocation in my opinion. I'm all for capitalism and the benefits from smart-successful business. But come on, it's just gotten stupid!

Just sayin...how much is enough?

I exsercised my rights and turned the channel...

Flame away....

I haven't watched it in a long time. Really, how many rods, '57 Chevy, Camaro, and Cudas can you stand to watch go across the block? I'm all for a muscle car, but throw in some variety dammit.

Bj

I agree with Schumi: BJ is the last place I'd go looking for the deal and right car. I'm tired of all the dudes with sunglasses sitting up there talking up some stupid "Hemi". I've been tuning them out lately.

So....back from Barrett Jackson and after taking it all back in....I probably could have finished there in a couple days instead of four. I believe the good deals were happening mostly Wednesday and Thursday....and maybe a few here and there the other days.

I noticed that the cars looked a lot better under all the lights then they did outside.

Some cars went for about two or three times what they should have.

Under the tent.....it isn't bright enough to wear sunglasses.

There was a pretty cool 63 or 64 Savoy/Belvedeere convertible that was light blue in color with a little bit darker blue top. Just like my Grandma would've liked....but it was equipped with a 426 Max Wedge with two fours....and a 4-speed! Talk about a sleeper. Probably my favorite car.

Got to test drive a four door Ford Raptor with the 6.2liter. Nice truck. Fox Shocks. It sure didn't take much to get the tires loose....lots of power. Also drove a CTSV wagon. powerful also.

Over all it was a fun time because I was with my dad and brother.

Scottsdale and Phoenix were nice. We must have missed all the traffic because we didn't have any problem moving around.

Also.....favorite place to hang out/eat/have a beer......Twisted Kilt. We don't have those here in Ohio.....wow.

I switched it on a few times during the weekend, I'd watch for about 10 minutes while they over-hyped some average POS for charity, dragging it out forever trying to guilt everyone.

Makes for terrible telebision, I changed the channel.

Next time you are coming to the area, let us know and we can have a get together!

The Kilt is a good place, and easy to get in and out of. Glad you found it.
