Panamera growing on me

Every morning this week I have seen the same black Panamera 4S on the highway. I live near a P-car dealer and see them all the time but usually not moving. At rest they remind me of J-Lo, cute face with a big butt.

But,

I have to admit, in fluid form, it is a damn sexy car! Instantly recognizable and creates lust in my heart. Coupled with the Turbo's stunning performance on Top Gear USA (episode 8), I may be sold.

Anyone on board own one?

I saw one inside the mall over Christmas and I liked it a lot.

Wife said I thought you said it was ugly....it was in the pictures.

I see them daily on the street. Still does nothing for me.

Tesla purchased one, so a couple Pelicans (who work for Tesla) have access to one.

Looks good until you see it's rear... where it looks like an updated AMC Pacer.

I would be OK with that. I liked the Pacer.

I still think they're heinous looking. Supposed to be incredibly great to drive but that just doesn't do it for me in terms of getting one. If I had to choose a 4-door Porsche it would be a Cayenne...

In terms of looks both the Maserati and Aston are far sexier IMO. (Although I couldn't afford either of those whereas the Porsche has more realistic price-points to choose from.)

You must be joking. That thing is fugly. Completely botched up back side. I see a lot of dorks drive them here in LA thinking that they have something special. In my wife's opinion the panamera is for guys that weren't allowed to get a sports car. :D I think she hit the nail on the head.

You're mistaking familiarity for attractiveness.

I think their cool. I'm going to think their even cooler 2-3 years from now when their on the market for 50% less than their original sticker.

Only problem with that is that you'll lose half your money again in another 2-3 years, and so on. It will stop around $10k.

1. I still won't be able to afford one.

2. Which is OK because I'll still think they're ugly.

onewhippedpuppy 01-29-2011 04:36 AM

Given time.....they're still ugly. Frankly I like the new Cayenne as far as SUVs go, blasphemous as that is to say.

Yesterday my wife asked me if they made a 4 door Maserati, she saw a "really nice car" pass her and was able to make out the Maserati name on the back. My wife NEVER notices cars. She told me I need to get one.:D As long as there's cars like the Quattroporte available, the Panamera won't make much sense.

Yes, it is fast. The Top Gear here Dailymotion - Top Gear: Season 15, episode 3. Part 1 of 6 - a Auto-Moto video compares it to a couple of other sedans. The comments on the Porsche are unrelenting.

gr8fl4porsche 01-29-2011 09:19 AM

I agree with the overall sentiment that the cars rear end is butt ugly, pun intended.

For some reason, cruising by the black 4S from an elevated SUV position, the car appears beautiful. Of course, it could just be my morning eyes looking thru a very dirty salt encrusted cracked windshield.

Actually, the only problem is that in my original post, I can't seem to separate 'their' from 'they're'

EarlyPorsche 01-29-2011 09:59 AM

Its getting worse with me. Is it going to survive and be redesigned or one hit wonder?

tangerine911S 01-29-2011 02:31 PM

I never hated it but it looked a little odd in the rear in pictures. After seeing a few in person I like them. Powerful looking.

Reminds me of the Enzo when it first came out. Hated it. Then I got used to it and liked it. Now it looks dated and too large.

nynor 01-29-2011 02:46 PM

to me, it looks like a squashed cayenne, only larger. sorry, if the panamera is growing on you, its mold. IMO.
